Boban: 'I'd do it all again for Milan'

Zvonimir Boban assures he’d ‘do it all again’ after his sacking, is genuinely ‘happy’ Milan backed Stefano Pioli and urges ‘force of nature’ Zlatan Ibrahimovic to stay.

Former director Boban was fired five months ago following an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport in which he openly accused CEO Ivan Gazidis of engaging in talks with Ralf Rangnick without informing him or fellow director Paolo Maldini.

Gazidis: 'Hope Maldini & Gigio stay'

Ivan Gazidis hopes Paolo Maldini and Gianluigi Donnarumma ‘stay for a long time’ and states Milan will make a decision on Zlatan Ibrahimovic ‘quickly’.

Ibrahimovic’s contract expires at the end of the season and the striker has been critical of Gazidis recently, although that was before coach Stefano Pioli was given a new contract.

Gazidis: 'Pioli shares Milan vision'

Ivan Gazidis believes Stefano Pioli ‘best channels our vision of a successful Milan’ and assures Elliott Management will continue to provide ‘solid ownership’.

Pioli signed a two-year contract with Milan earlier this week after the plug was pulled on Ralf Rangnick, and Gazidis revealed the coach would play a ‘key role’ in the club’s plans for the future.

“Our primary objectives have never changed,” he told the club’s official website.

Claim: Rangnick 'rejected Milan'

Bild writer Christian Falk reveals why Ralf Rangnick ultimately pulled out of signing for Milan. ‘He wanted full control and to be seen as a saviour,’ but Stefano Pioli’s success ruined that.

The deal was seemingly ready for completion, with just the issue of buying Rangnick out of his current contract with Red Bull.

Milan stick rather than twist

News of Stefano Pioli’s new contract ended the prospect of a brave new world at Milan. Richard Hall analyses why Ralf Rangnick isn’t coming after all, and who the winners and losers are…

Whether you agree or disagree with Stefano Pioli’s extension as Milan coach until 2022, you would have to say this is a victory for the establishment. Paolo Maldini is also set to stay on and it seems he has certainly used his influence to the full in this political struggle. Whilst time will tell if this is a large dose of short termism or not, the process has been a confused one and it confirms Milan were not willing to take a leap of faith and embark on a new project that could have seen Ralf Rangnick revolutionise the club.

Gazidis: 'Pioli is my first choice'

Pioli was confirmed last night, as the proposed move for Ralf Rangnick never materialised, and Gazidis explained that the current coach was ‘always a candidate for the future’ in Via Aldo Rossi.

Official: Milan extend Pioli to 2022

Milan confirmed they will not hire Ralf Rangnick and are extending Stefano Pioli’s contract to 2022. 'This is not a decision based on recent victories, but one based on how Stefano has built team spirit and unity of purpose.'

“AC Milan announce that an agreement has been reached with Stefano Pioli for a two-year extension of his contract as coach of the first team, which will therefore now expire in June 2022.”

Ibra: 'If I wanted old Milan...'

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has revealed that he could join Monza if he wanted the old Milan. ‘Adriano Galliani called me and said they were 11km away.‘

Galliani brought Ibrahimovic to Milan back in the summer of 2010 and, whereas the striker has since returned to San Siro, the CEO is now at nearby Monza with Silvio Berlusconi.

“Galliani called me and said: ‘You said this isn’t your AC Milan. Your old AC Milan are 11km away from Milan’,” he told Gazzetta dello Sport.
