Fiorentina donate €1.5m to Astori family

Fiorentina donated €1.5m to Davide Astori’s family after his tragic death last year, their accounts show.

Astori died during his sleep on the eve of Fiorentina’s Serie A match against Udinese in March 2018.

The Viola released their accounts for the 2018 financial year on Friday, which showed they had set up a trust fund worth €1.5m for the defender’s family.

Fiorentina target Cenk Tosun

Fiorentina have reportedly set their sights on Everton centre-forward Cenk Tosun for next season, according to Tuttomercatoweb.

He only joined the Premier League side in January 2018, moving at a cost of €22.5m from Besiktas.

So far this season, he has managed only three goals and three assists in 27 competitive games.

It’s likely Fiorentina will ask to take Cenk Tosun on loan with an option to buy.

Montella: Ajax inspire Fiorentina

Vincenzo Montella insists Fiorentina will have no ‘fear’ when they take on Juventus this weekend and that Ajax are the blueprint for his club.

Juve lost to SPAL last weekend and were eliminated from the Champions League by a youthful Ajax side, while Montella guided Fiorentina to a 4-2 victory over the Bianconeri back in 2014.

“We’ll face a disappointed but fierce Juve,” he said at a Press conference.

Serie A Week 33 referees

The referees for Serie A’s Week 33 fixtures are announced as Marco Guida will take charge of Inter-Roma.

No games are being played this Sunday due to it being Easter weekend, so there are nine games on Saturday, with Napoli’s visit of Atalanta scheduled for Monday due to their Europa League commitments this evening.

Guida has already officiated the Derby della Mole between Juventus and Torino this season, as well as the Milan derby and Roma’s trip to San Siro in August for their match against the Rossoneri.

Juve’s Dybala faces spell out

Juventus will reportedly be without Paulo Dybala for at least their next two games against Fiorentina and Inter.

Dybala injured his quadriceps muscle during Juve’s 2-1 defeat to Ajax on Tuesday, and La Stampa claims he will not be back for the rest of this month.

That would rule the forward out of the Bianconeri’s potential Scudetto party against Fiorentina on Saturday, as well as the Derby d’Italia with Inter on April 27.

According to Forzaroma.info, Giallorossi sporting director Ricky Massara has targeted Veretout as well as Cristiano Biraghi for next season.

Italian teams ought to entertain

With Italian football starting to rebuild itself, Jay Cassano argues the next step for the league is to play more entertaining football.

Italian football’s precipitous decline has left despondent those of us who grew up on Milan derbies, jaw-dropping fantasisti, and thrilling Scudetto races.

Undoubtedly, the main reasons for this fall are the Calciopoli scandal of 2006 and Italy’s weak economy. The two combined to leave Serie A in the wake of the ascendant Premier League as well as La Liga, both of which were starting to capitalise on lucrative broadcast deals. As Serie A has rebuilt itself from those ashes, one obstacle to reclaiming its former glory has been a comparatively dull style of play.

Report: Biraghi on Roma radar

Fiorentina and Italy left-back Cristiano Biraghi is reportedly on Roma’s radar for next season.

According to La Nazione, Roma have identified Biraghi as the ideal heir to Aleksandar Kolarov, who turns 34 later this year.

The 26-year-old has missed just one game all season for Fiorentina and gone on to establish himself as Italy’s first-choice left-back.

The Giallorossi, for their part, have conceded the most goals out of Serie A’s top 10 sides (45) and shipped seven away to Fiorentina in the Coppa Italia.
