Atleti to step up Kalinic bid?

Tuttosport reports that Atletico Madrid are ready to step up efforts to sign Nikola Kalinic from Milan.

The Croatian forward has endured a difficult year, falling out with Rossoneri Coach Rino Gattuso before being sent home from Croatia’s World Cup squad for refusing to come on as a substitute.

He appears set to leave the San Siro, with Atletico poised to offer him the chance of a fresh start in La Liga.

And in the coming days, it is expected that the Rojiblancos will push to reach an agreement for the signing of the 30-year-old forward.

Mid-table clubs aiming higher

The Scudetto contenders might grab all the headlines, but Serie A's mid-table sides are really strengthening this summer, explains Billy Wilkinson.

Whilst the top of the Serie A pack grows stronger with arrivals like Cristiano Ronaldo to Juventus and Inter fixing the holes in their team, it appears Serie A’s middle pack are just as busy making important moves.

As always, those who are not blessed with rich owners or a lucrative financial model are forced to find different ways to be successful. Fiorentina’s method is buying promising talent and then developing them into world beaters and their strategy is clearly on show this summer.

Pioli: 'Fiorentina deserve Europe'

Stefano Pioli believes Fiorentina “deserve to play in the Europa League for the club’s reliability” as pre-season started with a 17-0 win.

The Viola finished eighth in Serie A and would’ve missed out on Europe, but with Milan excluded due to Financial Fair Play violations, Atalanta are bumped up to the group stage with Lazio.

This means Fiorentina will, if the Rossoneri appeal is rejected, enter from the preliminary rounds.
