Three goals in five games for Napoli

Napoli have scored just three goals in their last five Serie A games, and have gone scoreless for two matches for the first time since 2014.

The Partenopei were held to a 0-0 draw by Fiorentina yesterday, with that result following a 1-0 defeat at home to Juventus.

That is the first time Maurizio Sarri’s side have failed to score in consecutive games since the Coach took over, and the first consecutive scoreless games since September 2014.

Wk16: Stalemate synchronicity

It was a weekend of dire draws, but some sides tried harder than others to break that deadlock, writes Susy Campanale.

This was an historic weekend, as Juventus, Napoli, Roma and Inter had not all played goalless draws in the same matchday since Week 17 of the 1965-66 campaign. I’d love to say it was not for want of trying, but that wouldn’t be entirely true. Some tried considerably harder than others.

Koulibaly ‘not worried’ by form

Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly is not worried by his side’s recent lack of goals following today’s stalemate with Fiorentina.

The Partenopei wasted the chance to return to the top of Serie A after a goalless draw against Stefano Pioli’s team.

The result means Napoli have not scored in three of their last five League matches, but the defender believes his side did all they could to secure victory today.

“When we don’t win it’s hard for everyone,” Koulibaly told reporters.

Fiorentina Player Ratings v Napoli

Words: Ciro Di Brita - @Ciruzzo36

Marco Sportiello – 7

Was alive to most of the danger is his box, made a good stop on to the post from Piotr Zielinski’s effort in the second half.

Vincent Laurini – 6

Had a quiet enough game, was probably glad he didn’t have to face Lorenzo Insigne or Faouzi Ghoulam on Napoli’s left-hand side.

Davide Astori – 6

Napoli Player Ratings v Fiorentina

Words: Ciro Di Brita @Ciruzzo36

Pepe Reina –  6

Made a couple of comfortable saves in the first half to thwart Giovanni Simeone, but was a spectator in the second.

Elseid Hysaj – 5

Failed to get up and support Jose Callejon or add anything in the attack. Gave the ball away too easily, too often.

Raul Albiol – 6

Sarri: 'Napoli created the chances'

Maurizio Sarri maintains Napoli are back on track in terms of performance after their 0-0 draw with Fiorentina. “We created many chances.”

A victory would’ve put the Partenopei on top of the table, as Inter were held by Juventus last night, but they again failed to score from open play.

Pioli: 'Fiorentina deserve credit'

Stefano Pioli acknowledges Napoli “have lost sharpness lately, but I want to give credit for the result” to Fiorentina after their draw.

“We had a good game, the forwards did fine work and Napoli made us run a lot, but we went beyond the result and performance. The important thing is that Fiorentina are here,” the Coach told Sky Sport Italia.

Napoli wasteful with Fiorentina

Napoli wasted a golden opportunity to recapture the top of Serie A, as they were again toothless in attack against Fiorentina.

Lorenzo Insigne, Arkadiusz Milik and Faouzi Ghoulam were sorely missed in the stalemate at the Stadio San Paolo.

A victory would’ve allowed Maurizio Sarri’s men to leapfrog Inter and get back on top of the table, but Dries Mertens and Piotr Zielinski wasted the best opportunities.
