Highlights: Fiorentina 2-1 Crotone

Giacomo Bonaventura’s sensational chest and volley was the ideal way to open his Fiorentina account, while Dusan Vlahovic completed a well-worked move.

The former Milan midfielder controlled a loose ball on the edge of the box and smashed the volley with the outside of his right boot into the far top corner.

The second Viola goal was very different, but still had a great deal of quality to it, Franck Ribery using one-touch football to lay it off for Vlahovic.

Stroppa praises 'world class' Messias

Giovanni Stroppa wanted Crotone to be more ‘courageous’ from the start against Fiorentina and hails ‘world class’ Junior Messias.

The Squali lost 2-1 at the Stadio Franchi to Giacomo Bonaventura and Dusan Vlahovic goals, getting one back after the break with Nwankwo Simy.

“In terms of character, the second half was certainly better. We should’ve started stronger and been more aggressive, but were sluggish on the goals,” the coach told DAZN.

What does it mean to be Winter Champions?

The title of Winter Champions is purely a media one, but the team top of Serie A at the midway stage has gone on to win the Scudetto 19 times in the last 26 campaigns.

Milan need only a point today against Atalanta to be sure of taking the Campione d’Inverno crown, as if Inter win and the Rossoneri lose, then the Nerazzurri have a superior goal difference.

Come the end of the season, head-to-head will be the deciding factor, but at the midway stage it’s still goal difference.

Mancini coached the Russian striker at Zenit in the 2017-18 campaign, when Kokorin scored 19 goals in 35 games.
