Aina: 'Sarri said I wouldn't play at Chelsea'

Ola Aina reveals why Maurizio Sarri prompted him to leave Chelsea and join Torino, initially on loan and then on a permanent transfer.

The Nigerian wing-back spoke to Baiteze Squad on their Instagram livestream interview.

“Sarri told me I would have to go on loan, I would not have played,” said Aina of their 2018 conversation.

“During the market , I received offers from Championship clubs, but I wanted to play in the Premier League.

Everton and West Ham eye up Aina

Torino wing-back Ola Aina could be on his way back to England after receiving interest from Everton and West Ham United.

The 23-year-old Nigeria international was born and raised in England, coming up through the Chelsea youth academy.

After a loan spell at Hull City, he joined Torino in 2018 and made the move permanent for €10m.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Carlo Ancelotti’s Everton and fellow Premier League side West Ham have alerted Toro to their interest in Aina.

Serie A: Two-match ban for Balo

Serie A handed Brescia star Mario Balotelli a two-match ban and a €10,000 fine after the sending off against Cagliari, whilst eight other players are suspended.

Balotelli came lasted only seven minutes on the pitch after coming off the bench in the 74th minute, as he was first awarded a yellow card for a foul and then another for insulting the referee.

The Diciplinary Commission gave its verdict and decided that the Brescia forward will have to sit out the games against Milan and Bologna, as well as a fine for insulting the match official.

Official: Torino purchase Aina

As expected, Torino have activated their €10m option to buy wing-back Ola Aina on a permanent basis from Chelsea.

The 22-year-old spent this season on loan in Serie A with 32 Serie A appearances, one goal and three assists.

The Nigeria international impressed under Coach Walter Mazzarri and Toro had confirmed several months ago they intended to activate the €10m option.

“Everyone at Chelsea Football Club would like to thank Ola for his services and we wish him the best of luck for the next stage in his career.”

Toro confirm Aina deal

Torino President Urbano Cairo has announced that his club have signed full-back Ola Aina from Chelsea on a permanent basis for €10m.

Aina spent last season on loan at Torino, and Cairo confirmed his club had honoured their right to purchase the 22-year-old, despite Chelsea’s apparent counter-option.

Torino go for Mario Rui

Torino are reportedly preparing a €13m bid for Napoli left-back Mario Rui and are ready to exercise their €10m option on Chelsea’s Ola Aina.

According to Tuttosport, Toro Coach Mazzarri has asked President Urbano Cairo to bring in the Portugal international this summer.

The 28-year-old has fallen out of favour at the San Paolo this season, while receiving heavy criticism from the home crowd, and his agent recently confirmed his exit.

Toro to exercise Aina option

Torino have confirmed that they will exercise their €10m option to buy Chelsea full-back Ola Aina.

Aina played 32 times for Torino, scoring one goal and providing three assists as the Granata finished the season on 63 points – a new club record since Serie A went to three points for a win.

“He’s done well, we’ll send Chelsea a letter stating that we will exercise our option to buy him,” President Urbano Cairo told Sky Sport Italia.

Report: Chelsea want Aina back

Chelsea are reportedly planning to bring back Ola Aina once his loan spell at Torino expires.

Toro have a €10m option to buy Aina at the end of the season, but the full-back signed a new contract with Chelsea before he made the move.

That suggests the Blues have a counter-option, and the Evening Standard writes they are ‘reluctant’ to part with their youth graduate, especially if their transfer ban stands.

Revealed: Fiorentina's transfer targets

Vincenzo Montella’s Fiorentina shopping list for this summer has reportedly been revealed.

According to La Nazione, a new right-back is a priority for the Viola next season and Torino’s Ola Aina and Brescia’s Alessandro Semprini top Montella’s wish list.

Aina is currently on loan at Toro from Chelsea and the Granata have an option to buy at the end of the season, but the newspaper notes the Tuscans could hijack any deal.
