Montolivo makes Fiorentina demands

Fiorentina must become stronger and more competitive if Riccardo Montolivo is to sign a new contract with the club.

The Italy international has stalled on putting pen to paper on a new deal with just 18 months remaining on his existing contract.

"I would like a stronger and more competitive Fiorentina, and I hope, in fact, I am certain that the Della Valle family want one too," Montolivo said.

"It's not a financial problem. I am 26 and I have the desire to make a jump in quality. Fiorentina are my priority.

Juventus make Gilardino a priority

Juventus have made Fiorentina striker Alberto Gilardino their No 1 transfer target this summer, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.

The Old Lady have been strongly linked with Gilardino, more so after he decided to change his agent earlier this season.

The 28-year-old has said that he plans to consider his future at the end of the campaign, refusing to commit to Fiorentina.

Juventus are keen to build an all Italian attack comprised of Alessandro Matri, Luca Toni, Fabio Quagliarella and Alberto Gilardino.

The Florentine Aldair

Ignore last night's performance against Inter. James Horncastle feels Fiorentina have uncovered a star in Michele Camporese.

Nello Baglini had a right to look back on his career and smile. After all, he would forever be remembered as the man who saved Fiorentina from financial oblivion. The printing magnate had been elected President of the club in 1965 and inherited a debt worth 800m lire. It was enough to scare off even the wealthiest of football patrons, but not Baglini.

Pazzini guns for the Viola

Inter striker Giampaolo Pazzini insists he'll show no hesitation in trying to score against former club Fiorentina this evening.

The 26-year-old had five tormented seasons in Florence and never stepped out of the shadow of Luca Toni and then Alberto Gilardino.

"I got a lot of satisfaction at Fiorentina," Pazzini told the Inter Channel. "But now I am only thinking about winning with Inter.

"After the defeat to Juventus in Turin, the game this evening becomes even more important."

Viviano's loyalty is divided

Bologna goalkeeper Emiliano Viviano admits his loyalty will be divided when Fiorentina play Inter this evening.

The Italy international is part-owned by Inter, but is a well known Fiorentina supporter.

"I will watch it on TV," he said. "Inter are stronger on paper, but I have hope in Fiorentina's good form and in the fans because they will make the strength of the Artemio Franchi felt.

"I am sorry that the Collettivo group of Ultras is no more. For 33 years they were an example among Italian supporters."

Baresi reveals Inter tactical shift

Leonardo has lost his voice, so assistant manager Beppe Baresi explained Inter's tactics in their Florence victory.

“The shouting from the touchline took away what little voice Leonardo had left,” said Baresi when he turned up for post-match interviews.

Giampaolo Pazzini turned in a Samuel Eto'o pull-back to give them a 2-1 win over Fiorentina in the rescheduled Week 17 Serie A match.

Mihajlovic: 'It hurts to lose like this'

Sinisa Mihajlovic feels Fiorentina “did not deserve to lose” against Inter. “It hurts to suffer a defeat like this.”

The Viola had fought back after Michele Camporese's own goal, but Giampaolo Pazzini tapped in the 2-1 winner.

“I prefer to win and play well, but I think we got half of that right this evening,” commented Mihajlovic.

No queue for Gilardino

Antonio Labbate takes a closer look at what the future holds for Fiorentina's Alberto Gilardino after new links with Juventus.

"I still have two years left on my contract with Fiorentina and I'd like to respect it. I've already said that I have a desire to stay because my family and I are happy in Florence. We'll just see what happens in the summer…"

Those were the words of Alberto Gilardino in January when, in response to continual links with Juventus, he failed to totally commit himself to the Fiorentina cause. In leaving that smidgen of doubt, he made sure that his name would be a constant in the transfer rumour mill for the rest of the campaign.
