Zaniolo: 'I'll be back for Euro 2020'

Roma forward Nicolò Zaniolo said he’s not ‘in a hurry to get back’ but the Italy international vowed to return ‘in time’ for Euro 2020.

The Italian midfielder picked up two different knee injuries in 2020, the first one on January 12 against Juventus in Serie A and the second one against The Netherlands in a Nations League match with Italy.

Coaches see Inter taking Scudetto

Inter are the over-riding favourites for the Scudetto, according to a survey of Serie A coaches, with Milan and Juventus getting one vote each.

ItaSportPress released the results of their survey, which saw 16 out of 20 tacticians reply to the questions.

Of the 16 who did respond, 11 of them tipped Antonio Conte’s Inter to take the 2020-21 title, although Sinisa Mihajlovic of Bologna, Fiorentina’s Cesare Prandelli and Sampdoria boss Claudio Ranieri chose not to give their answer.

Nicchi: 'Referees were heroic'

AIA President Marcello Nicchi praised the referees after an ‘unfortunate’ year and stressed ‘it’s irresponsible to criticise match officials just for the sake of it’.

The chief of the Referees' Association spoke of the prizes given to Pierluigi Collina and Daniele Orsato and praised the match officials for stepping up in a difficult time for football.

“The referees were heroic in this unfortunate 2020 due to the pandemic,” he told Radio Sportiva. “The managed to ensure their performance in all categories.

Fiorentina fight Roma for El Shaarawy?

Fiorentina will reportedly fight Roma for the signature of Stephan El Shaarawy, who seems set for a return to Italy after a stint Shanghai Shenhua.

The Italy international has been linked with a return to Roma this winter, but Tuttosport claims the Viola are stepping up the chase.

The newspaper reveals Fiorentina have targeted the former Milan star, who is looking for playing time ahead of Euro 2020 next summer.

Fiorentina and Sassuolo sound out Nainggolan

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Fiorentina and Sassuolo have sounded out Radja Nainggolan, but the Inter midfielder wants Cagliari return.

The 32-year-old midfielder has only played 45 minutes in all competitions so far this season and is expected to leave the Giuseppe Meazza in the winter transfer window.

Milan dominate calendar year 2020

Milan dominated Serie A in 2020, collecting 79 points in 35 games, with Juventus fourth behind Inter and Atalanta. Check out the full table.

Stefano Pioli has helped lift the Rossoneri top the top of Italian football in 2020 and if you only take into account the points won in the last calendar year, the Rossoneri are six points clear of their local rivals Inter.

Rabiot ban still stands?

There is some genuine confusion over whether Adrien Rabiot will be suspended against Udinese after Juventus left him out with Fiorentina.

The midfielder had originally been set to sit out a ban in Week 3’s fixture with Napoli on October 4.

That was awarded as a Juve 3-0 victory when Napoli failed to attend in Turin, but an appeal with the CONI overturned that decision yesterday.

The game must now be played and that means the Rabiot ban was never fulfilled.
