Fiorentina plan to bid for Catania striker Maxi Lopez if Alberto Gilardino decides to leave the Artemio Franchi at the end of the season.

Gilardino says he will take a leaf out of Riccardo Montolivo's book and consider his options in May amid strong interest from Fiorentina's bitter rivals Juventus.

Gilardino cautions Balotelli

Fiorentina striker Alberto Gilardino has advised Mario Balotelli to change his ways otherwise risk losing his best years as a footballer.

The Manchester City youngster is frequently in the headlines for the wrong reasons and was left out of Cesare Prandelli's latest Italy squad.

"I know Balotelli very well and he undoubtedly has great technical gifts," Gilardino said.

"He must learn to slow down and control himself otherwise there is the risk that he will lose himself.

Montolivo closer to Juventus?

Fiorentina midfielder Riccardo Montolivo would be interested in joining Juventus this summer, according to the latest reports.

The Italy international has stalled on signing a new contract at the Artemio Franchi and is considering his options.

Speaking to Sky Italia, Montolivo's agent Carlo Pallavicino said: "Right now it's best not to take a position."

However, it's thought that Montolivo has given his OK to a move to Juventus.

Montolivo's decision apparently rests on ambition not financial gain.

Santana wants new Viola deal

Mario Alberto Santana is ready to sign a new contract at Fiorentina – but only if the club satisfy his demands.

The attacking midfielder, who has been in bright form lately, has less than three months left on his contract in Tuscany.

Talks over a renewal have taken place, but negotiations haven't been as smooth as his wing play in recent times.

"If it was up to me then I would stay here, but I'm not just going to sign a blank contract," he commented.

Jovetic almost ready

Stevan Jovetic could make his comeback from injury in two to three weeks' time according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.

The 21-year-old Montenegro international hasn't played at all this season after tearing the ligaments in his knee.

He is currently in Germany completing the final phase of his rehabilitation.

The ligaments in Jovetic's knee have apparently recovered their functionality and he now needs to develop muscle strength around it.

Behrami: 'I hope it's not too serious'

“I hope I won't have to be out for a long time again,” said Fiorentina winger Valon Behrami ahead of tests on his knee injury.

The Swiss international limped off 15 minutes into last night's 0-0 draw with Bulgaria after spraining his right knee.

Initial tests excluded damage to the meniscus and cruciate ligaments, but the collateral ligament situation is still unclear.

“I already snapped my cruciate ligament in the past, but this problem is different,” said Behrami.
