Serie A raises money for coronavirus fight

Players are donating money to hospitals and raising funds to help Italy get through the Coronavirus pandemic, including Leonardo Bonucci, Josip Ilicic and Lorenzo Insigne.

Serie A, B and C have been put into lockdown and the death toll in the country now stands at 1,441 with another 1,518 in intensive care and 17,750 currently suffering from the respiratory disease.

Italy Coronavirus deaths now over 1,440

There have now been 1,441 deaths in Italy due to the Coronavirus pandemic, an increase of 175 over the last 24 hours, with 1,518 in intensive care.

A press conference this evening confirmed there are 17,750 people suffering from Coronavirus in Italy right now, an increase of 2,795 from Friday.

There are now a total of 17,750 currently dealing with the illness, along with 1,966 who have made a full recovery.

Medics and players: 'Do not resume training'

Club medical staff and the Players Association have joined to threaten a strike if clubs pressure them into resuming training too early into the Coronavirus pandemic.

There have been reports of a clash in the Lega Serie A conference call between Lazio President Claudio Lotito and Juventus patron Andrea Agnelli on how long training should be interrupted.

A joint statement was released by Serie A chief medical staff today, warning they would be prepared to take action if necessary.

Cutrone: 'Thank you for messages'

Fiorentina forward Patrick Cutrone, on loan from Wolves, sent out a message after testing positive for Coronavirus. “Thank you for all your support and messages of affection.”

The former Milan striker is one of three Fiorentina players to test positive, after Dusan Vlahovic and German Pezzella.

“Thanks to all of you for the support and your messages of affection. I’m fine, and at this moment I stay at home following the protocol I received,” he wrote on Instagram.

Sampdoria stop Coronavirus updates

Sampdoria, who had five players test positive for Coronavirus, announced they won’t give any further updates to “avoid creating further public alarm.”

The Blucerchiati are the hardest-hit by the pandemic so far in Serie A, as Manolo Gabbiadini was the second player to test positive after Juventus defender Daniele Rugani.

Yesterday, Sampdoria announced that Omar Colley, Albin Ekdal, Antonino La Gumina, Morten Thorsby and club doctor Amedeo Baldari had all tested positive too.

Leagues learn from Italy during Coronavirus

People criticised the Italian authorities for their reaction to the Coronavirus pandemic, but Emmet Gates realises after seeing other leagues that they were leading by example.

Italian football and leading by example are never normally associated. This is, after all, a nation that is light years behind the rest of Europe on a whole array of issues, ranging from tackling racism, redeveloping stadiums and the systemic culture of blaming referees, to collective TV rights, blatant self-interest and a general aversion to modernising the way in which clubs are run.

Prandelli: 'I lost friends to Coronavirus'

Former Italy and Fiorentina coach Cesare Prandelli reveals he has “lost friends” to the Coronavirus outbreak. “Unfortunately, I think we closed everything down a week too late.”

There have now been 1,266 deaths in Italy from the pandemic, which began three weeks ago.

“I lost friends to this and that is just terrible. All we can do is stay home and avoid social contact,” Prandelli told Lady Radio.

Pezzella: 'Soon just another story to tell'

Fiorentina defender German Pezzella sent a message via Instagram after he and teammates Patrick Cutrone and Dusan Vlahovic tested positive for Coronavirus.

“As you know, after the tests and two days with some symptoms, they confirmed I have COVID-19,” wrote the Argentina international.

“The symptoms have now disappeared and I am at home following the procedures indicated by my club’s medical staff.

Pezzella and Cutrone contract Coronavirus

Fiorentina players Patrick Cutrone and German Pezzella have both tested positive for the Coronavirus, following the announcement last night that Dusan Vlahovic has also tested positive.

Fiorentina announced last night that striker Vlahovic tested positive for the COVID-19 virus, as the Coronavirus is otherwise known as.

Vlahovic follows Juventus’ Daniele Rugani and five Sampdoria players, Omar Colley, Albin Ekdal, Antonino La Gumina, Manolo Gabbiadini and Morten Thorsby in contracting the virus.

Vlahovic tests positive for Coronavirus

Fiorentina striker Dusan Vlahovic has been tested positive for the Coronavirus, the club has announced.

Vlahovic has become the latest professional footballer player to contract the disease.

Juventus defender Daniele Rugani was the first in Serie A to test positive for the disease.

Yesterday, Sampdoria striker Manolo Gabbiadini also admitted that he had tested positive for the virus.

Earlier today, Samp's Omar Colley, Albin Ekdal, Antonino La Gumina and Morten Thorsby all contracted COVID-19, as the virus is otherwise known as.
