Pedro: 'I'm ready for Fiorentina'

New Fiorentina signing Pedro has arrived and insists he is “ready to play” after recovering from injury at Fluminense.

The striker was a deadline day transfer, but had to fly back to Brazil to complete some red tape issues before returning to Italy last night.

He was greeted at the airport by reporters and assured them he was raring to go following a thigh issue that kept him out of the last three Fluminense games.

“I am very happy to be here,” said the 22-year-old striker.

“I’m ready to play.”

Euro 2020 round-up

It was an early Fiorentina-Juventus in Belgrade, as Nikola Milenkovic and Cristiano Ronaldo were on target as Portugal beat Serbia 4-2.

The Euro 2020 qualifier makes it now very difficult for Serbia to reach the tournament, as Ukraine are top of Group B with 13 points in five games.

Portugal picked up a 3-1 victory in Serbia with William Carvalho making the most of a comical goalkeeping error, then Goncalo Guedes drilling home.

Fiorentina defender Milenkovic was given acres of space for a free header on a corner to spark the comeback.

Agent: 'Borja Valero rejected transfers'

Borja Valero turned down moves to Fiorentina and Qatar because he "believes Inter can win everything this season and wants to convince Antonio Conte.”

The Spaniard is one of several players pushed to the sidelines over the summer and who were expected to leave San Siro.

“Borja wants to play for Inter. He left his home, Fiorentina, where they gave him all the love in the world and can never forget the way those people made him feel,” agent Alejandro Camano told passioneinter.com.

Benassi injury scare for Fiorentina

Fiorentina beat Serie B side Perugia 1-0 in a friendly with Franck Ribery in the starting XI, but lost Marco Benassi to injury.

The Viola played the test match last night and young player Tofol Montiel scored the only goal of the game, a fine curler from the edge of the box.

Ribery was in the starting line-up and combined well with Kevin-Prince Boateng to create several good chances, while deadline day signing Rachid Ghezzal came off the bench for his debut.

The 18-year-old finally made the move for €0.5m plus up to €1m in performance-related bonuses after a very public tug-of-war with the Reds.

Ghezzal: Joined a 'mythical' club

Rachid Ghezzal says he is delighted to have joined ‘a historic and mythical club’ in Fiorentina and that Serie A is ‘on par’ with the Premier League.

Ghezzal moved to Fiorentina on Monday, arriving on loan with a €10m option to buy and something to prove after an indifferent spell at Leicester City, where was burdened by Riyaz Mahrez comparisons.

“I signed right at the end of the window and Monday was a stressful day,” the Algeria winger said at his official unveiling.

Batistuta rejects Maradona role

Gabriel Batistuta says he has rejected the chance to form part of Diego Maradona’s coaching staff at Argentine club Gimnasia La Plata.

Maradona has been out of work since leaving Mexican side Dorados in June but seems increasingly likely to take over at Gimnasia.

Amidst the speculation, Batistuta has now publicly confirmed that he will not be reuniting with his ex-Albiceleste strike partner and fellow Serie A icon.

“I want to thank Diego Maradona for an offer that I’ve been waiting to receive for a long time,” he tweeted.
