Iachini: 'Too much uncertainty'

Fiorentina coach Beppe Iachini “liked the attitude” from his team in a goalless draw with Udinese, but struggled amid the “uncertainty.”

The game was played behind closed doors, rescheduled from last week, and the Viola had the best chance when hitting the woodwork with Nikola Milenkovic.

“The lads did well, considering it was behind closed doors and the quality of the opposition,” the coach told Sky Sport Italia.

AIC and Lega Serie A row over Coronavirus

The Players’ Association and Minister for Sport reiterate their desire to halt football during the Coronavirus outbreak, but the Lega Serie A warn “contrasting messages from the Government only increase confusion.”

Today’s Serie A games were originally called off last week, then organised behind closed doors, but Parma-SPAL only went ahead after a 75-minute delay thanks to last-ditch negotiations.

Serie A suspended next week?

Serie A will continue behind closed doors for this weekend, but an emergency summit has been called for Tuesday to decide whether all football will be suspended during the Coronavirus outbreak, as players threaten a strike.

This morning’s game between Parma and SPAL did eventually go ahead with a 75-minute delay after intensive negotiations blocked the teams within minutes of kick-off.

Official: Parma-SPAL will go ahead

Parma-SPAL will kick off at 12.45 GMT, 13.45 local time, 75 minutes later than expected after it was decided not to suspend the entire Serie A season due to the Coronavirus outbreak.

Piedmont chief politician has Coronavirus

The Coronavirus is spreading throughout the Italian Government and local authorities, as now President of Piedmont Alberto Cirio – who had fought to keep Juventus-Inter open – has tested positive.

There are well over 5,000 positive cases now in Italy, including 233 who have died and over 500 in intensive care, and the pace of the epidemic is only increasing.

After head of the co-ruling PD party Nicola Zingaretti tested positive, so now has President of the Piedmont regional assembly Cirio.

Players' Association: 'Stop for Coronavirus'

The Players’ Association President Damiano Tommasi has written to the Government and FIGC about the Coronavirus outbreak. “Stopping football is the most useful action for the country at this moment.”

There are growing calls for the Serie A, B and C seasons to be suspended entirely, just as they were about to get going again with games played behind closed doors.

Italian government issues latest decree

The Italian government has issued another decree, restricting movement throughout northern Italy, with as many as 14 provinces and four regions affected.

The rapid spread of the Coronavirus shows no signs of abating, and this has caused the Italian government to issue another decree.

The latest effectively restricts the movement of people living in the Lombard, Piedmont, Emilia-Romagna and Veneto regions of Italy, unless for “unavoidable work commitments or emergencies.”

The decree was issued in the early hours of this morning.

Balotelli calls for stop to football
