Nainggolan: 'Cagliari deserve attention'

Radja Nainggolan believes Cagliari "deserve more attention" following a 5-2 home victory over Fiorentina to put them temporarily in third.

"We are doing something incredible, nobody would have said at the beginning of the year that we could play so well. There is an enthusiasm that hasn't been seen at Cagliari for years," the Belgian told Sky Sport Italia.

The Sardinian side's win moves them to joint third in the table with Lazio, awaiting Roma's trip to Parma.

Montella: 'Cagliari superior in every way'

Vincenzo Montella has to concede “Cagliari were superior in every way” after his Fiorentina were flattened 5-2. “We didn’t wake up until 5-0 down.”

Only a late brace from young striker Dusan Vlahovic, his debut Serie A goals, prevented it being an even heavier result at the Sardegna Arena.

“There’s no much to say, really,” shrugged the coach on DAZN.

Battle to be the new Atalanta

Cagliari and Fiorentina are eager to follow in Atalanta’s footsteps and challenge for Europe this season, writes Kaustubh Pandey.

What Atalanta have done over the last two years is something other smaller clubs can genuinely dream of replicating. They have given an example to lesser clubs that with the right recruitment and a good tactical approach, they can challenge the big boys of Serie A.

The manner in which Cagliari and Fiorentina have started the season shows that they have the foundations for those ambitions.
