VIDEO: Atalanta's new-look arena

Atalanta are almost ready to unveil the new Gewiss Stadium after a summer of restructuring work on the Stadio Azzurri d’Italia.

The arena has been completely revamped with new stands, seating areas and roof.

It should be ready to host their first Serie A game next week and in the meantime, Atalanta have been using the Stadio Tardini in Parma as their makeshift base.

As for the Champions League matches, those will be held at Milan’s Stadio Giuseppe Meazza, also commonly known as San Siro.

Cassano starts sporting director course

Antonio Cassano, Sergio Pellissier, Alessandro Lucarelli and Elisabet Spina are among those starting the course to become sporting directors.

The course lasts 144 teaching hours and begins on September 16 at the Federation’s Coverciano training centre.

It is similar to the course that all tacticians are required to undergo before they can become accredited Serie A Coaches.

Among the names taking part in the first edition of the sporting directors programme are former players Cassano, Pellissier and Lucarelli.

Serie A Week 3 referees

The referees for Serie A Week 3 are announced as Massimiliano Irrati will officiate the clash between Fiorentina and Juventus.

Irrati [pictured, right] is one of Italy’s most experienced referees and was the VAR for the World Cup Final last year.

Elsewhere, Milan’s trip to Verona will be overseen by Gianluca Manganiello, Maurizio Mariani will take charge of Inter-Udinese and Federico La Penna is the man in the middle for Napoli’s visit of Sampdoria.

Conte all-time top Serie A earner

Antonio Conte is reportedly the highest-paid Coach in Serie A history on €11m per year at Inter, double the salary of second-placed Maurizio Sarri of Juventus.

La Gazzetta dello Sport drew up a list of this season’s top-earning tacticians and found that not only was Conte leading the way for the 2019-20 campaign, but also the history of Italian football.

Conte is believed to pick up €11m per year net to sit on the Inter bench, which is double the €5.5m that Sarri earns at Juventus.

Revealed: Serie A's highest earners

Juventus star Cristiano Ronaldo is Serie A’s runaway highest earner on €31m a season, with Matthijs de Ligt and Romelu Lukaku already second and third.

An investigation by Gazzetta dello Sport discovered Serie A was spending €1.36bn on gross salaries – the most in the League’s history.

That is chiefly down to Ronaldo’s extravagant income of almost €600,000 a week and Juve’s wage bill of €294m – more than double that of nearest challengers Inter (€139m).

Euro 2020: Lukaku stars for Belgium

Romelu Lukaku starred during Belgium’s 4-0 victory over Scotland in Euro 2020 qualifying, but Marcelo Brozovic and Ante Rebic struggled for Croatia.

Croatia remain top of Group E but saw their lead cut to just one point after a 1-1 draw with Azerbaijan.

Inter midfielder Brozovic contributed with just a 21st-minute booking, while Milan new boy Rebic was substituted with four to go.

Darmian grateful for United chance

Matteo Darmian insists Manchester United was ‘an experience I’d do all over again’, despite his lack of game time, as he prepares to start over at Parma.

Parma: 'Thought Darmian was impossible'

Parma director Daniele Faggiano admits he “thought it was impossible” to sign Matteo Darmian from Manchester United.

The full-back had been linked with a return to Serie A for years to Juventus, Inter or Roma, but moved to the Stadio Tardini.

“We had talked to the Coach about Darmian and thought it was impossible, due to the costs and various issues, but by pushing, we reached an agreement,” Faggiano said in his Press conference.

SD Faggiano extends Parma deal

Parma sporting director Daniele Faggiano has extended his contract with the club until 2022.

The renewal was confirmed in a statement on Parma’s official website.

“Daniele Faggiano’s contract extension is another fundamental step for a club like ours, one which is planning and working to create a structure, grow, improve and constantly look ahead,” said President Pietro Pizzarotti.
