Adriano: 'I want to play again'

Former Inter, Parma, Roma and Fiorentina striker Adriano discussed the depression that stalled his career and why at age 35 he wants to get back on the pitch.

The forward was known as ‘L’Imperatore’ and considered a future Ballon d’Or winner with everything it required to dominate the sport.

However, he never fully recovered from the shock of his father’s death to a heart attack in Brazil, when he was in Italy.

“After my father’s death, I was trapped in this tunnel of depression,” he told TV Globo.

Buffon picks five-a-side team

Gianluigi Buffon offers some names for a five-a-side team but admits “I’m very friendly with defenders, and I hate the strikers!”

The Juventus and Italy goalkeeper gave a long interview to Copa90, and he was asked to name a five-a-side team.

“I’m very friendly with defenders and I hate the strikers!” Buffon joked.

“I’d say the strongest I’ve played against are Ronaldo - the Brazilian -, Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Zinedine Zidane.

Ancelotti's Azzurri destiny

Carlo Ancelotti is destined to be the Italy Coach, writes Richard Hall, but when is the right time for him and the Nazionale?

Any talk of Carlo Ancelotti coaching the Azzurri should begin with the parties agreeing on one simple thing. It is a matter of when, not if.

Joachim Low and Gareth Southgate had nowhere near the experience of the aforementioned Coach, whilst Didier Deschamps has been nowhere near as successful. There is no doubt that his CV, boasting three Champions Leagues and four league titles in four countries, is enough elevate him to that level. The questions should be instead: would he want it, when and, would he still be relevant?

Palace in for Gilardino?

Reports are spreading that Crystal Palace are interested in former Italy striker Alberto Gilardino.

The Eagles, managed by former Inter and Udinese Coach Roy Hodgson, haven’t scored a goal all season and have lost Christian Benteke to injury for six weeks.

We had already reported on Saturday that Gazzamercato heard of talks between Gilardino and Palace.

Happy Birthday Donadoni

Today is the 54th birthday of Bologna Coach and former Milan midfielder Roberto Donadoni.

Born in Cisano Bergamasco, around an hour outside of Milan, the winger started his career with Atalanta.

Having helped the Orobici to win both Serie C1 and Serie B, Donadoni played in Serie A with the Bergamo side for two seasons before earning a move to Milan in 1986.

Following a fifth-placed finish in his first season with the Rossoneri, Arrigo Sacchi's side won the Scudetto in the 1987-88 campaign, with Donadoni a key man in the midfield.

Ghirardi declines Lucarelli ‘offer’

Former Parma President Tommaso Ghirardi declines Alessandro Lucarelli’s invitation to the Brescia game.

The Ducali captain has remained with the club since their bankruptcy in 2015 which forced them to restart in Serie D, the top amateur league.

Ghirardi ran up huge debts before selling the club at the start of the season where the Crociati went bust, and Lucarelli sarcastically invited him to watch the match against Brescia, the former patron’s hometown club.

Lucarelli slams Ghirardi

Alessandro Lucarelli sarcastically invites former Parma President Tommaso Ghirardi to a game - “get there early though, we all want to see you…”

The businessman ran up huge debts during his time at the helm of the Ducali, which eventually caused the club to collapse into bankruptcy.

The patron had left by then, selling the club to a to a Russian-Cypriot conglomerate who then sold it on to Giampietro Manenti.

Brother: Insigne criticism unfair

Roberto Insigne claims criticism of brother Lorenzo for Italy is “unfair” as “he didn’t play by himself” against Spain.

Insigne came under fire for his performance during Italy’s 3-0 defeat to Spain on Saturday, but his Parma-playing sibling insists he has been wrongly made a scapegoat.

“My brother Lorenzo? I think the criticism’s unfair,” Roberto told parmalive.com
