Reggina, Venezia and Varese bankrupt

It’s another sad day for Italian football, as Venezia, Reggina and Varese have all been declared bankrupt.

They failed to meet the deadline to register for the Lega Pro season.

At this point, the clubs can begin again from Serie D if they find new buyers willing to start all over.

Reggina hail from Reggio Calabria and were in Serie A as recently as 2009, including memorable names like Walter Mazzarri and Andrea Pirlo.

Atalanta buy out duo

Atalanta have officially bought Richmond Boakye and Giuseppe De Luca on a permanent basis.

Thursday is the deadline for working out co-ownership deals, so there is a flurry of activity.

Today Atalanta secured full ownership of two players who had been shared 50-50.

Striker Boakye was bought out from Juventus, while forward De Luca was sold by Varese.

Vandals postpone Varese-Avellino

Today’s Serie B game between Varese and Avellino has been called off after vandals devastated the stadium.

Overnight a group of local ultras broke into the Stadio Ossola with the express intention of damaging the property.

There were banners and graffiti protesting against Varese, while benches were demolished, areas of the pitch dug up and even sections of the goalposts sawed in half.

Serie B: Varese stadium vandalised

Varese’s Ossola stadium has been vandalised, putting today’s Serie B game against Avellino in doubt.

Overnight someone broke into the stadium and purposefully damaged the pitch.

Sections were dug up, while they even cut through some of the goalposts.

There were also signs and graffiti insulting the club, noting this was specifically targeted at ensuring the game did not go ahead.

The local authorities are urgently trying to fix the situation in order to play the game, which is due to kick off at 14.00 UK time (13.00 GMT).

Serie B: Varese and Modena axes

There are two Serie B dismissals, as Modena axed Walter Novellino and Varese fired Stefano Bettinelli.

This weekend two clubs pulled the plug on their tacticians.

As expected, Modena have now officially sacked Novellino and handed the reins to co-Coaches Mauro Melotti and Simone Pavan until the end of the season.

Varese followed suit and sent Bettinelli out the door after their defeat to Brescia saw them drop to joint last place.

Milan teen returns after crash

Milan youth product Isaac Akuetteh will be back playing in January, six months after he was hit by a train.

The 15-year-old was riding his bicycle in Cadrogo, near Como, on August 31. As he was listening to music on earphones, he did not hear the train arrive as he went over the crossing.

He was in serious condition and kept in a coma to help him heal, but his recovery has been remarkable.

It was today announced Akuetteh has been passed fit to resume his football career and will return to Milan from his loan spell at Serie B side Varese.

Felipe Anderson happy with goal

Lazio’s Felipe Anderson has spoken of his joy after scoring in the Aquile’s 3-0 win over Varese.

The Biancocelesti swept aside their Serie B opposition, with the Brazilian getting the third goal late in the second half.

“Firstly, I’m happy because I helped the team,” the midfielder told reporters after the game.

Pioli: ‘Klose was injured’

Lazio Coach Stefano Pioli defended his decision not to play Miroslav Klose in this afternoon's Coppa Italia tie, insisting the striker was injured.

The German striker admitted this week he has been unhappy at the amount of game time he’s been given, and the World Cup winner remained on the bench throughout the 3-0 win over Varese.

Coppa: Lazio crush Varese

Lazio eased to a 3-0 win over Varese in the Coppa Italia, with no place in the side for Miroslav Klose.

The German striker declared his unhappiness at a lack of first team action this week, but Aquile Coach Stefano Pioli opted to leave the 36-year-old on the bench for the entirety of the Cup tie.

An own goal from Milan-loanee Stefan Simic gave the Biancocelesti the lead on 24 minutes, before Filip Djordjevic doubled the advantage just two minutes later.

Lazio named their squad for tomorrow’s Coppa Italia tie against Serie B team Varese.
