Italy change U-20 and U-19 Coaches

Italy have named Daniele Franceschini as the new Under-20 Coach, with Alberto Bollini taking over the Under-19 team.

The various youth levels of the Nazionale have been shaken up this summer with Luigi Di Biagio leaving the Under-21 post, to be replaced by former Under-20 Coach Paolo Nicolato.

In turn, Nicolato is replaced at the Under-20 level by Franceschini, who steps up after two seasons on the Under-18 bench.

The new Under-19 Italy boss is former Lecce, Salernitana and Modena Coach Bollini.

Italy U17 lose Euro Final

Italy were forced to settle for a runners-up finish at the European Under-17 Championship after they lost 4-2 to Netherlands in Sunday’s Final.

The Azzurrini beat Spain, Germany and Austria in the group stage, before taking care of the Portuguese and a fancied French side in the knockout stages.

However, they found themselves three goals down in the first half of the Final, although a brace from Milan striker Lorenzo Colombo made the scoreline a bit more respectable in the second.

Italy U17 reach Euro Final

Italy’s Under-17 team have reached the European Championship Final after beating France 2-1 on Thursday.

The Azzurrini had fallen behind to an Enzo Millot goal in the 41st minute, but they came back courtesy of goals from Verona full-back Iyenoma Udogie and Inter forward Salvatore Esposito.

The result was particularly impressive, given France had won 10 of their last 11 games.

Italy will face Netherlands in the Final, the Oranje having defeated Spain 1-0, which will be held in Dublin on Sunday afternoon.

U17 Euros: Italy reach semi-final

Italy have beaten Portugal 1-0 despite going down to 10 men and will face France in the European Under-17 Championship semi-final.

Simply reaching the semi-final means they have also secured their place at the Brazil Under-17 World Cup later this year.

The Azzurrini continued their perfect record in the tournament, having won all three group games.

This evening, they managed to defeat Portugal in the quarter-final thanks to the only goal from Juventus youth product Franco Tongya.

U17 Euros: Perfect Italy record

Italy topped their group with a 4-1 win over Spain and will face Portugal in the European Under-17 Championship quarter-finals on Monday.

The Azzurrini and Spain were already qualified, but this was a head-to-head for the top spot in the group and the chance to avoid Hungary in the next round.

This 4-1 result means Italy top Group D with a 100 per cent record, having already beaten Germany 3-1 and Austria 2-1.
