Serie B: 11 Vicenza players have COVID

Another five squad members and two members of staff at Serie B side Vicenza tested positive for COVID-19, taking the total up to 11 players.

There is now a confirmed outbreak at the club, as this afternoon it was announced five players and two members of staff had also tested positive.

They are Luca Barlocco, Pietro Beruatto, Matteo Bruscagin, Stefano Giacomelli and Emanuele Padella.

Along with previous cases discovered last week, there are now 11 Vicenza players out of action due to Coronavirus.

Gotti: 'Udinese had fun'

Udinese coach Luca Gotti said he saw the Friuli ‘have fun’ in the 3-1 win over Vicenza in the Coppa Italia last night.

The Friuli, who have only picked up three points in five League games so far, advanced in the Italian Cup, as Fernando Forestieri, Gerard Deulofeu and Ignacio Pussetto scored the goals at the Dacia Arena.

The coach said his team were doing ‘their utmost’ to go through and pointed out that Ilija Nestorovski did all he could to grab a goal against the Serie B side.

Brahim Diaz breaks Milan duck

Brahim Diaz got his first goal in a Milan jersey during their 5-1 friendly victory over Vicenza this afternoon.

Samu Castillejo was the star of the first half, bagging a brace around a goal from youth team product Lorenzo Colombo.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic was rested ahead of Saturday’s friendly against Brescia, a game organised after Sandro Tonali made his transfer to San Siro.

In the second period, Leo Duarte accidentally put into his own net, but Brahim Diaz was able to celebrate his first strike for the Rossoneri, combining with Lucas Paqueta.

Udinese thank Nestorovski against Vicenza

Udinese beat Vicenza 3-2 in a pre-season friendly, with Mamadou Coulibaly, Petar Micin and Ilija Nestorovski goals.

Coulibaly opened the scoring at the Stadio Comunale in Manzano after 33 minutes, but Vicenza turned it around to lead 2-1 through Riccardo Meggiorini and Simone Guerra either side of half-time.

The Friulani fought back to equalise through 21-year-old Serbian striker Micin’s curler and late on Nestorovski got his head to a Palumbo cross for the victory.

Official: Serie C stops here

The regular Serie C season has ended with Vicenza, Reggina and Silvio Berlusconi’s Monza promoted and Gozzano, Rimini and Rieti relegated.

The decision was made official at today’s Federal Council, where it was also confirmed Serie A would be decided by playoffs and playoffs or an algorithm if the season stopped again.

Consequently, Monza, Vicenza and Reggina – leaders of the three Serie C groups – will go into the second tier.

Former Roma player Bouasse died of cardiac arrest

Former Roma youngster Joseph Bouasse Perfection died at the age of 21 last night after suffering a heart attack.

The midfielder from Cameroon never played for Roma but was picked up by the Giallorossi one and a half years after having been on trial at Trigoria.

Bouasse died at 21 last night of sudden cardiac arrest, three months after having joined U Cluj in the second tier of Romanian football, and was the last signing made by Walter Sabatini before the former sporting director stepped down from his role at Trigoria.

Serie C: Bari to sue if Carpi promoted

Bari President Luigi De Laurentiis has already threatened to sue if Carpi are given the fourth and final promotion spot from Serie C into Serie B.

The Serie C meeting today reached a unanimous agreement that the 2019-20 season cannot be completed amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The proposal that will be put forward to the FIGC includes a block on relegation, with the three regional group winners – Monza, Vicenza and Reggina – promoted into Serie B.

Serie C 2019-20 season is over

The 2019-20 Serie C season is over, as the clubs agreed to terminate it here, promoting Monza, Vicenza, Reggina and probably Carpi to Serie B, while there will be no relegations.

Today’s Lega Pro meeting reached a unanimous conclusion, as the coronavirus pandemic makes it impossible for the clubs to follow all medical protocols required to resume in safety.

Vicenza youth team player out of coma

Vicenza youth team player Edoardo Bolzon has emerged from his coma and is out of danger eight days after a sudden brain haemorrhage.

The Under-17 defender was taken ill on Monday April 20 and rushed to the Treviso Hospital for emergency surgery.

He remained in critical condition, but the Serie C club announced this evening that Edoardo had regained consciousness and is out of danger.
