Rafael Leao springs to life for Milan

After struggling for consistency last year as Milan’s newest bright-eyed talent, Matthew Santangelo believes Rafael Leão finally is benefitting from embracing coach Stefano Pioli's approach.

Monday evening’s clash between unbeaten Milan and Roma at San Siro served as the main course of Serie A Week 5, a marquee matchup that put two premium veteran strikers, Zlatan Ibrahimović and Edin Džeko, front and centre.

For the Big Swede, it was business as usual, another two-goal, 'Father Time'-defying performance for the third straight league match, while the Bosnian yet again proved why he is a priceless component to the Giallorossi at 34 by scoring one himself.

Leao: 'Milan draw disappointing'

Milan striker Rafael Leao says he is 'disappointed' for Milan's 3-3 draw against Roma.

"It is a pity we didn’t win. We created many goal chances, now we continue to work," Leao told Sky Sport after the game.

The 21-year-old provided two assists against the Giallorossi but it was somehow not enough for the Rossoneri to snatch the three points.

Pioli: 'Milan's first target of the season'

Milan coach Stefano Pioli confirmed Rafael Leao can ‘play a small part’ against Rio Ave, when the Rossoneri aim to ‘reach the first objective’ of 2020-21.

The Diavolo travel to Rio Ave for the play-off to reach the group stages of the Europa League and must still cope without COVID-19 positive Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Lorenzo Colombo scored in his first start against Bodo/Glimt in the second qualifying round last Thursday and Leao has since recovered from coronavirus.
