Duarte out for 3-4 months

Milan have been dealt a blow as defender Leo Duarte will be out for 3-4 months with a heel injury.

Duarte - a summer signing from Flamengo - had only just broken into Milan’s first team, starting four of their last seven games.

However, the 23-year-old missed the 1-1 draw with Napoli last weekend and the Rossoneri confirmed on their official website he had fractured the heel bone in his left foot.

He underwent surgery on Thursday and will be out for “3-4 months”, as per the club’s statement.

Two in, two out for Milan

Franck Kessie and Mateo Musacchio are called up by Napoli to face Napoli tomorrow, but Leo Duarte and Ricardo Rodriguez miss out through injury.

Kessie had been a doubt as to whether he would make the squad, given how late he returned from international duty, but the midfielder is in.

Musacchio also returns after an injury layoff but defenders Duarte and Rodriguez are unavailable, as are the suspended Ismael Bennacer and Hakan Calhanoglu.

Elsewhere, there are call-ups for Paolo Maldini's son Daniel and centre-back Mattia Caldara.

Milan almost there with Juventus

Milan will be disappointed their tactical masterstrokes forced Juventus to play badly, writes Elio Salerno, but not enough to stop them winning again.

For regular viewers of calcio, it was a game that had an all too familiar feel about it. Paraphrasing a certain Gary Lineker, Italian football is a simple game, two teams chase a ball for 90 minutes and in the end, despite being second best, Juventus always win.

“Milan have a beautiful history, they’re a great club,” he told Sport Mediaset.

“Many famous Brazilians have played here, like Kaka, Serginho, Cafu and Thiago Silva. I hope to follow in their footsteps.

Milan disappoint in Cesena

Leo Duarte made his Milan debut off the bench, but the Rossoneri played out a disappointing 0-0 draw with Serie C side Cesena.

Marco Giampaolo again used Suso as a trequartista, this time behind Samu Castillejo and Krzysztof Piatek, as Rafael Leao was carrying a slight injury. Ismael Bennacer and Rade Krunic didn’t make the trip, while Lucas Paqueta was on the bench.

Despite the summer friendly status, Cesena were quite aggressive in their tackling and pressing game, seeing a goal disallowed for Emanuele Valeri’s offside position.

'Duarte a great deal for Milan'

Former Milan and Brazil goalkeeper Dida believes the Rossoneri have pulled off a ‘great deal’ for Flamengo defender Leo Duarte.

Little is known about Duarte outside his native Brazil, but Milan are paying a reported €11m for the 23-year-old, who was also of interest to Roma and Bayer Leverkusen.

“He’ll have to adapt to Italian football, but he’s a good defender who did very well last season,” Dida told Gazzetta dello Sport.

Milan reportedly beat Roma and Bayer Leverkusen to the signing of Flamengo defender Leo Duarte.

Duarte completed his Milan medical on Thursday morning and will now sign a five-year contract, Gazzetta dello Sport’s Nicolo Schira writing he will earn €1.2m a season with the Rossoneri.

Schira also corroborates Serginho’s revelation that the Diavolo fought off competition from Roma to the 23-year-old, while adding Leverkusen were also disappointed.
