Serie B: Empoli hire Marino

Frosinone earned an important win in Ascoli and Spezia shocked Crotone, while Empoli hired third coach of the season Pasquale Marino.

Empoli announced they have fired Roberto Muzzi and brought in Marino on a contract to June 30.

Muzzi had only been hired in November to replace Cristian Bucchi.

Official: Lecce sign Saponara

Lecce have officially signed midfielder Riccardo Saponara from Fiorentina after completing his medical earlier today.

Saponara has been on loan at Genoa for the first six months of the season, but failed to make an impact with the Rossoblu.

Relegation strugglers Lecce have now signed the 28-year-old for the remainder of the season, and have officially deposited his contract with Lega Serie A.

Saponara underwent his medical earlier this morning with the Giallorossi.

Lecce get Saponara

Sky: Lecce have reached an agreement with both Fiorentina and Genoa to bring Riccardo Saponara to the Via del Mare.

The attacking midfielder has been on loan at Genoa this term and Fiorentina have according to Sky Sport Italia agreed to let him move to the Giallorossi for the last half of the season.

The 28-year-old has only played four Serie A games for the Rossoblu and his current loan move with an option to buy will be transferred to Lecce for the remainder of the season.

Zajc set for Brescia

Former Empoli midfielder Miha Zajc is reportedly on his way back to Italy with Brescia after a year at Fenerbahce.

According to Turkish site Fotomac, the Slovenia international is on the verge of a €4m transfer to Brescia.

This is roughly the same price that Fenerbahce paid to sign him from Empoli in January 2019.

Zajc spent two years at Empoli, putting together 68 competitive appearances for the Tuscan side, scoring 12 goals and contributing 19 assists.

He has 15 senior caps for Slovenia, scoring four goals.

Hellas hand Henderson to Empoli

Hellas Verona have loaned Scotland Under-21 international Liam Henderson to Empoli, with an option to buy at the end of the season.

The 23-year-old has been in Italy since leaving Celtic for Bari in January 2018.

He moved on to Verona that summer and helped them to promotion into the top flight.

However, Henderson made only five competitive appearances this season between Serie A and the Coppa Italia, not starting since September 1.

Exclusive: Acquah in talks with Serie A duo

EXCLUSIVE: Sources close to Afriyie Acquah confirm to Football-Italia.net that the Malatyaspor player is in talks with both Lecce and another Italian club.

SportItalia has claimed that Acquah had agreed terms with Lecce over a move back to Serie A, but Football-Italia’s sources states that he is also negotiating terms with an unnamed club in the top division.

Kjaer having Milan medical

Simon Kjaer is undergoing his Milan medical, while Fiorentina send Sebastiano Cristoforo to Eibar and Lecce’s Andrea La Mantia joins Empoli.

The January transfer window is in full swing and several moves are going through today.

Danish centre-back Kjaer has arrived at the Milanello training ground for his medical.

He had joined Atalanta on loan in the summer, but barely featured under Gian Piero Gasperini, struggling to adapt to a three-man defence.

Empoli sign Napoli pair

Empoli have secured loan deals for two Napoli players, Gennaro Tutino and Amato Ciciretti.

The Serie B outfit are seeking reinforcements, having slipped down the table in recent weeks.

The Tuscans announced that Ciciretti had joined the club on loan this evening.

Now Tutino is following suit, as he was pictured with his agent smiling as they entered the club headquarters to sign the contract.

Winger Tutino had been on loan at Hellas Verona for the first six months of this season.

Report: Tonelli returns to Samp

Lorenzo Tonelli should be on his way back to Sampdoria, as he is reported to be looking for a way out of Napoli.

According to Sky Sport Italia, the 29-year-old from Tuscany could be heading back to Genoa after featuring 19 times for the Blucerchiati last season.

Claudio Ranieri has reportedly been looking for an experienced defender and Tonelli has been struggling to break through at the San Paolo.

Sarri reaches Serie A Century

Maurizio Sarri has made history by reaching his 100th Serie A victory in only 169 games, as the fastest to reach a century from 1994 was Carlo Ancelotti on 185.

The coach turns 61 next month, but did not make his top flight debut until August 31 2014, when his Empoli lost 2-0 at Udinese.

He was 55 years, seven months and 21 days old at the time.

Following today’s 2-1 victory away to Sampdoria, Sarri’s Serie A tally now stands at 100 wins, 43 draws and 26 defeats.
