Bennacer so valuable for Milan

Ismael Bennacer is the unsung hero of Stefano Pioli’s Milan, writes Kaustubh Pandey, and deservedly attracting attention all over Europe.

Milan’s recent upsurge in form has succeeded in attracting the attention of many in Europe. The victory over Roberto De Zerbi’s men on Tuesday saw them stretch their unbeaten run to seven wins and two draws since the lockdown. So much has been said of the importance of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, the goal-scoring form of Ante Rebic and rediscovered Franck Kessie. Yet once again Ismael Bennacer shone, and in a game which could have gone either way, the Algerian provided a huge amount of control to a Milan midfield that really needed it.

Pucciarelli: 'I don't know what happened at Chievo'

Manuel Pucciarelli has hit the ground running at Pescara and claimed he still doesn’t know why he wasn't given a chance at Chievo Verona.

In January, the 29-year-old moved to Pescara on loan and has contributed three goals in his nine games so far.

“I can’t speak about extending my contract, only the President can decide that, but there was something in January, talk of more important things than only a loan deal,” he told Rete8.

“We have now resumed play and we will talk about it later.”

Torino serious about Krunic?

Torino have reportedly been in talks with agent Sergio Berti regarding a possible move for Milan midfielder Rade Krunic.

Journalist Nicolò Schira claims the Granata are seriously interested in the former Empoli player, who only arrived at San Siro last summer.

The Bosnia international has struggled to find his feet in Milan and could be on his way after only nine appearances for the Rossoneri this term.

Schira writes that Torino have enquired about the availability and the process has advanced to contact with his representative, Berti.

On this day: Napoli appoint Sarri

On this day five years ago, Napoli appointed Maurizio Sarri as their coach on an initial one-year contract.

Despite being 56 at the time of his move to Napoli, Sarri had only one season of Serie A experience under his belt.

However, he made a positive impression as he guided Empoli to a 15th-placed finish in their first season since winning promotion from Serie B, which the coach also masterminded.

Fiorentina & Milan 'want Ricci too'

Fiorentina and Milan have both reportedly entered the race to sign Empoli midfielder and Napoli target Samuele Ricci.

Napoli were the first Serie A side to sound out Ricci and Sky Sport Italia claims they have already offered €11-12m for the 19-year-old.

However, the broadcaster warns Empoli are preferring to keep their options open at this stage, alerting Fiorentina and Milan.

Bennacer not for sale

Milan reportedly intend to keep Ismael Bennacer at San Siro, as Ralf Rangnick has allegedly marked him as an indispensable member of the club's future.

In recent days, the future of Bennacer has been widely discussed in Italian media, with rumours of interest from Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City.

La Gazzetta dello Sport claims the Algerian will stay put, as Rangnick has identified the midfielder as one of the cornerstones in the team and would like to start building the new midfield from the former Empoli man.

Inter monitor returning Sepe

Parma goalkeeper Luigi Sepe should be ready to return in goal when Serie A resumes but his future at the Ennio Tardini remains uncertain.

The 29-year-old shot stopper is on loan from Napoli with a conditional obligation to buy the player, but Tuttosport claims he is still on Antonio Conte’s radar at Inter.

Bennacer: 'Had to go where I was wanted'

Milan midfielder Ismael Bennacer reveals why he had to leave Arsenal for Empoli, needs to rein in his tackling and wouldn’t ask Cristiano Ronaldo for a selfie.

He had already agreed terms with the Rossoneri last summer when winning the Africa Cup of Nations with Algeria and being named Player of the Tournament.

Now 22, he passed through the Arsenal youth academy before the sale to Empoli for just €1m in 2017.

Paredes: 'Juve wanted me in 2011'

Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Leandro Paredes has revealed Juventus tried to sign him nine years ago, but his agent rejected the move.

The Old Lady have been linked with the Argentine in recent months and the 25-year-old, who has played for Chievo, Roma and Empoli in Italy, has claimed he was close to joining Juventus as a teenager.

In an interview with TNT Sport, Paredes said: “In 2011, a Juventus director tried to buy me and told me he wanted me as back-up for [Andrea] Pirlo.
