OFFICIAL: Fulham appoint Ranieri

Premier League strugglers Fulham have officially appointed former Juventus, Roma and Inter boss Claudio Ranieri as their new manager.

A statement on Fulham’s official website confirms Ranieri has signed ‘a multi-year contract’ and replaces Slavisa Jokanovic, who was sacked after the Cottagers’s poor start to the season.

“It is an honour to accept Mr. Khan’s invitation and opportunity to lead Fulham, a fantastic club with tradition and history,” said the 67-year-old.

Ancelotti: ‘Too many insults’

Napoli Coach Carlo Ancelotti reiterates his beliefs about the atmosphere in Italian football - “abroad it’s unlikely you’ll be insulted, in England it’s impossible”.

The three-time Champions League winner said last week that there are too many insults in the stadiums, and he expanded on that at the FIGC’s symposium today.

“The thing that’s most lacking abroad is definitely the tactical aspect,” Ancelotti said.

Sarri sets new Chelsea record

Maurizio Sarri has set a new record as the first Chelsea manager ever to go unbeaten in his opening 10 Premier League games.

The former Empoli and Napoli Coach still hasn’t tasted defeat in the tournament since replacing Antonio Conte this season.

Today’s 4-0 demolition of Burnley was achieved without star man Eden Hazard, who was left behind due to an injury.

Sarri has won seven of his first 10 Premier League games, drawing the other three.

Serie A battling with Premier League

Serie A continues to battle with the English Premier League for second place in UEFA’s nation coefficient.

After matchday three of the Champions League, England has a lead of just 0.022 coefficient points over Italy, with both teams still having six teams in European competition.

The English total over five years is 68.462, compared to 68.440 for Italy.

So far this season Serie A sides have picked up 6.357 points, while team from the Premier League have 5.642.

Serie A leading in Europe

Italian teams have taken the most points per game of any nation with two or more teams in this season’s Champions League so far.

Serie A once again has four representatives this season, after a UEFA rule change which sees the top four nations get four teams automatically into the group stage.

So far Italian teams have performed better than any nation with two or more teams, taking 2.17 points per game.

Juventus and Roma both won in this round of fixtures, while Napoli draw at Paris Saint-Germain and Inter lost to Barcelona in Spain.

Chelsea back Sarri over assistant controversy

Chelsea will reportedly support any decision Maurizio Sarri takes over assistant Marco Ianni, who provoked Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho on Saturday.

Ianni’s celebration after Chelsea’s 96th-minute equaliser against United prompted a melee around the tunnel at Stamford Bridge, with Mourinho needing to be held back.

The former Inter boss confirmed he had accepted an apology from the assistant after the 2-2 draw, while Sarri said he would deal with the matter.

According to The Sun, Chelsea have ‘lost patience’ with former Juventus attacker Alvaro Morata and Icardi ‘tops their shopping list’.

The newspaper explains Maurizio Sarri’s side are ready to ‘splash out’ on a forward midseason to boost their chances of silverware.

Dzeko won't rule out England return

Roma striker Edin Dzeko has refused to rule out a return to the Premier League, even if ‘it’s probably too late’.

Dzeko rejected a switch to Chelsea at the turn of the year but nonetheless spent four-and-a-half seasons in England with Manchester City, winning two Premier League titles. 

“It’s probably too late for me to return to the Premier League, but you never know: we’ll see,” the Bosnian said at a Press conference.

Hazard hails Sarri style

Chelsea star Eden Hazard has hailed former Napoli boss Maurizio Sarri for making ‘a big difference’ at Stamford Bridge.

Hazard scored his sixth goal of the season during Chelsea’s 2-1 win at Liverpool in the League Cup on Wednesday, which was the Reds’ first defeat of the season. 

“You see it on the pitch,” he told The Times when asked about how his side had embraced Sarri’s attacking philosophy.
