Villar: 'I don't leave my house'

Roma midfielder Gonzalo Villar reveals he ‘feels a certain responsibility’ to remain careful and help the resumption of Serie A.

The youngster, who moved to the Italian capital in January, revealed the quarantine period spent alone in isolation forced him to do more housework.

“In recent weeks I have understood that I’m able to do certain things,” he told Onda Cero. “Previously, I had a lady who came to clean my house, but during the lockdown we weren’t allowed contact with anyone, so I had to do it myself.”

Birthday boy Villar: 'We must be strong'

Roma midfielder Gonzalo Villar turns 22 today and celebrates in self-isolation, encouraging people to “be strong and responsible, staying at home”.

The Spain Under-21 star moved to the Olimpico in January, when the Giallorossi picked him up for €4m from Elche CF.

He has since gone on to appear three times in Serie A and his last match before the forced break – in the 4-3 win against Cagliari in Sardinia – was his first full 90 minutes in the League.

Fonseca: 'Roma suffered too much'

Paulo Fonseca was pleased with Nikola Kalinic and Gonzalo Villar performances in the 4-3 win over Cagliari, but Roma “didn’t need to suffer so much.”

Joao Pedro had put the Sardinians in front, but Nikola Kalinic turned it around with a brace, assisted Justin Kluivert and Aleksandar Kolarov scored with a direct free kick.

The Giallorossi thought it was over, but a couple of late goals set up a tense finale for the 4-3 result.

Gonzalo Villar insists he doesn’t feel the “pressure” of making the step from Elche to Roma, but did lose 2kg through the stress of transfer talks.

The midfielder turns 22 next month and arrived from Elche in a deal worth €4m plus up to €1m in bonuses, making his debut as a substitute in the 4-2 defeat to Sassuolo on February 1.

“I want to thank everyone for the welcome I received and all the help I am getting to settle in,” said Villar in his press conference.

Roma running in circles

Roma brought in three young talents, but kicked out Alessandro Florenzi, so Vilizar Yakimov is trying to make sense of yet another controversial transfer strategy.

It’s really hard to find logic behind most of Roma’s decisions on the transfer market in recent years. However, if you look carefully into the Giallorossi dealings since James Pallotta took over the presidency in 2011, one pattern stands out.
