Pirlo's Juventus revert to three?

Andrea Pirlo is reportedly planning a return to the three-man defence at Juventus, potentially with Alex Sandro and Danilo in more central roles.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Pirlo is open to switching back to the system that had proved so successful under Antonio Conte and at times also Max Allegri.

Maurizio Sarri’s 4-3-3 system didn’t work as well as it could’ve done, especially at the back, where the Bianconeri conceded a massive 43 Serie A goals.

Bologna trio extend deals

Experienced trio Angelo da Costa, Danilo and Rodrigo Palacio have extended their contracts with Bologna for another season.

Da Costa, 36, will play another season as second fiddle to first-choice goalkeeper Lukasz Skorupski.

Danilo [pictured, right], also 36, has been a virtual ever-present in Bologna’s defence since signing from Udinese in the summer of 2018.

Palacio is similarly still going strong, making 10 goalscoring contributions this term, despite turning 38 in February.

Only Higuain and Rabiot abroad for Juve

Juventus have almost all their players back in Turin after going overseas, staying in quarantine, but Gonzalo Higuain and Adrien Rabiot are still abroad.

Training began this week at the Continassa ground, as players had tests for COVID-19 and could then run on the pitches, albeit keeping to social distancing guidelines.

However, those who had been abroad during the lockdown and only recently returned cannot take part, as they must first self-isolate at home for 14 days.

Juventus players start to return

Wojciech Szczesny and Cristiano Ronaldo have returned to Turin and must begin their 14-day quarantine, with Danilo and Douglas Costa expected back tomorrow for Juventus.

The Continassa training ground has opened up for individual training sessions, even though social distancing guidelines must still be observed.

Those who have already been given the all-clear for COVID-19 can begin running on the training pitches from today, but the situation is more complicated for players who have been abroad.

Juve Brazilians leave Turin

Juventus pair Alex Sandro and Danilo have been allowed to return to their native Brazil for the remainder of the coronavirus crisis.

Juve’s players without COVID-19 symptoms ended their self-isolation yesterday, and the duo will spend the rest of the lockdown with their families back home.

It comes after Douglas Costa, Gonzalo Higuain, Sami Khedira and Miralem Pjanic left Turin last week, despite the quartet not completing their quarantine periods.

Danilo: 'Juve must improve'

Juventus defender Danilo has blamed a poor first half against Olympique Lyonnais and has admitted that the Bianconeri "must keep training to improve".

The Brazilian right-back played the full 90 minutes of the 1-0 defeat at the Groupama Stadium and felt the Old Lady improved after the break.

“I don’t think we were good enough in the first half,” he told JTV. “In the return leg we have to play as we did in the second half today. We were compact and played with intensity.”

Danilo: 'Juventus gifted first half'

Danilo admits Juventus “cannot just gift the first half” to Olympique Lyonnais in a 1-0 Champions League defeat.

Lucas Tousart scored the only goal of the first leg in this Round of 16 tie, but even after pouring forward after the break, Juve still failed to get a shot on target.

“We cannot just gift the first half to the opposition in such an important tournament. We are aware that we did that and need to work harder,” Danilo told Sky Sport Italia.

Could Cancelo go back to Inter?

Manchester City are reportedly ready to sell Joao Cancelo back to a Serie A club just a year after his €65m transfer from Juventus, with Inter and Bayern Munich interested.

It would be a return to the Nerazzurri, as Cancelo spent the 2017-18 season at San Siro on loan from Valencia.

They were not prepared to activate the €40m option to buy, but Juventus did, only to sell him on to Manchester City at a massive profit 12 months later.

His value was given as €65m, although Manchester City actually paid €28m cash plus Danilo.

Danilo out of Napoli and Viola

Juventus confirmed that they need to cope without Danilo against Napoli and Fiorentina, as tests have revealed a hamstring injury in the right thigh.

Today the Brazillian has been through some tests and revealed a “low-grade lesion to the semimembranosus muscle of the right thigh”, as stated in the medical report published on Juventus’ official website.
