Serie B season suspended until May 1

In a surprise move, the Serie B 2020-21 season has been suspended until May 1 so that all the outstanding fixtures delayed due to COVID cases can be played.

This will allow for a ‘fairer’ situation in the final four rounds, with all the teams starting from the same number of games.

Several fixtures have had to be postponed and rescheduled due to COVID outbreaks at various clubs, most recently Pescara.

Serie A call for Euro 2020 treatment

After the Government announced it will guarantee at least 25 per cent capacity at Euro 2020 games in Rome, Lega Serie A chief Paolo Dal Pino asks for fans to be let back into league matches within weeks.

There had been real doubt as to whether the CTS (technical scientific committee) would give the go-ahead for a minimum 25 per cent capacity at the Stadio Olimpico for the four scheduled Euro 2020 fixtures.

All Copa America players to be vaccinated

CONMEBOL announced they have struck a deal for 50,000 COVID-19 vaccines from China to immunise players ahead of the Copa America.

The tournament is set to run from June 13 to July 10 in Argentina and Colombia, with many Serie A players expected to participate.

There are 10 South American nations taking part, including Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, Chile and Venezuela.

Chinese pharmaceutical company Sinovac are donating the 50,000 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine.

De Rossi discharged from hospital

Italy staff member Daniele De Rossi was discharged from Spallanzani Hospital today and will continue the recovery at home.

Good news for the former Roma captain, who was hospitalised since April 9 due to coronavirus.

La Gazzetta dello Sport reveals the latest exams allowed the former midfielder to go home with the help of the health team.

De Rossi will continue the rehabilitation period at home, after having been hospitalised with bilateral interstitial pneumonia.

Lazio appeal COVID verdict

Lazio have appealed the sentence ‘for violation of the COVID protocol’ to the FIGC Court of Appeal.

The Federal Court had condemned President Claudio Lotito for the swab case and the owner has been suspended for seven months.

Lazio, who were charged for violations of federal regulations and a lack of observance of the health protocols in force were also fined €150,000.

Meanwhile, the club doctors Fabio Rodia and Ivo Pulcini were punished with a 12-month suspension from their positions.

Reports claim Zlatan violated COVID restrictions

Milan forward Zlatan Ibrahimovic allegedly violated the COVID-19 restrictions and had his friend open a restaurant in the city yesterday.

The city of Milan is a red zone and the restaurants should be closed, but Fanpage claims the Swede violated the protocol and dined at his friend’s restaurant with former defender Ignazio Abate also present.

La Gazzetta dello Sport has picked up a story from Fanpage, which reveals the 39-year-old asking his friend Tano Simonato to open his restaurant for them to have lunch.

De Rossi explains COVID hospitalisation

Daniele De Rossi reveals why he went to hospital with COVID-19 symptoms. ‘I stood up and nearly fainted. The doctors said if I hadn’t had it checked out…’

The former Roma midfielder is now part of Roberto Mancini’s Italy staff, which is where he contracted the Coronavirus during that recent outbreak.

He was taken into the Spallanzani hospital in Rome on Friday and is undergoing treatment for pneumonia.

Italy still cannot guarantee Euro 2020 crowds

The CTS admits it is ‘not possible’ to confirm how many spectators Italy can have at Euro 2020 games in Rome, putting their hosting duties into doubt again, while Dublin could lose the fixtures too.

UEFA had set a deadline for today, warning Governments and Federations they had to give some guarantees that a portion of the crowd would be allowed into the stadiums when the tournament kicks off on June 11.

Bologna: Skorupski negative for COVID

Bologna goalkeeper Lukasz Skorupski has tested negative for coronavirus and returns to Italy today.

Calciomercato.com reports the goalkeeper underwent a new swab test and received a negative result.

Skorupski will gradually resume training in the next few days, after having tested positive for COVID-19 during the international retreat with Poland.

He was not available for the 1-0 defeat to Inter last time and his conditions will be monitored for the match against his former club Roma on Sunday.
