Lazio 'injured party' in COVID test investigation

Lazio’s lawyer insists if there was any wrongdoing in the COVID-19 tests at the Avellino laboratory, then the club was ‘an injured party.’

The Futura Diagnostica laboratory is under investigation after several players came up negative in their tests, but positive for UEFA and a different laboratory in Rome.

Police swooped on the lab to gather evidence, but Lazio are confident they are not under accusation.

COVID: 580 deaths in 24 hours

The second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic continues to grow in Italy, with another 35,089 cases and 580 deaths over the last 24 hours.

Italy was the first European country to be truly hit by the pandemic with the first case on February 20.

Today’s figures show out of 217,758 tests, there were 35,089 new positive cases in the last 24 hours.

There were also 580 deaths, taking the total for those who lost their lives in Italy to Coronavirus to 42,330.

Official: Napoli appeal rejected

Napoli’s appeal against the 3-0 result handed to Juventus by default and one-point penalty has been rejected, as it is ruled they did break the COVID-19 protocol by refusing to travel.

The Partenopei had failed to attend the Serie A fixture in Turin on October 4 after receiving a note from the local health authority (ASL) ordering them to remain in self-isolation.

That was because they had two positive COVID-19 cases, for Piotr Zielinski and Eljif Elmas.

Kumbulla also has COVID-19

Roma defender Marash Kumbulla confirms he has tested positive for COVID-19 after teammates Edin Dzeko, Federico Fazio, Davide Santon and Lorenzo Pellegrini.

The outbreak of Coronavirus is growing rapidly within the Roma camp.

Dzeko was the first to test positive last week, followed yesterday by Fazio, Santon and Pellegrini.

This afternoon, defender Kumbulla posted on Instagram that he too had tested positive for the virus.

Crotone and Juventus give back in COVID fight

Juventus and Crotone are working with local authorities to ensure more people have access to rapid response COVID-19 testing.

The clubs have decided to give back to the local community and many others in Serie A are expected to do the same.

Crotone are donating 1,000 rapid response tests to the local health authority in Calabria, to help with a screening programme of the local population.

In Turin, a drive-through testing centre will be set up in the car park of the Allianz Juventus Stadium, with Juventus allowing use of the space for free.

Report: 95 Lazio swabs seized

La Gazzetta dello Sport reports the Prosecutor’s Office has seized 95 swab tests to analyse the results from Lazio’s laboratory in Avellino.

The Federal Prosecutor’s Office and the Public Prosecutor’s Office are investigating into the coronavirus situation at Lazio in recent weeks.

The head of Futura Diagnostica, the laboratory Lazio relies on for the swabs, is reportedly a suspect and the prosecutors have confiscated 95 swabs to study them further.

Serie C: Six new cases of COVID at Palermo

The derby between Palermo and Catania could be at risk, as ANSA reports six new cases of coronavirus at the Rosanero.

The news agency reports the pre-match swabs on the eve of tonight’s match in Serie C, scheduled at 20.00 UK time, has revealed six players positive for COVID-19 and two others are being studied further.

Among the 18 players called up by coach Roberto Boscaglia, six players tested positive for coronavirus, totally asymptomatic.

The club waits for the outcome of the control swabs carried out this morning, as per the FIGC protocol.

The FIGC Prosecutor’s Office is investigating into Futura Diagnostica and the prosecutors of Avellino are studying the coronavirus situation at Lazio.

Il Corriere dello Sport reports hypotheses of crime in the file opened by the Public Prosecutor of Avellino.

The President of Futura Diagnostica, the laboratory that Lazio relies on for the swabs, has been registered as a suspect, according to the report.

Lazio investigation gathers evidence

According to news agency Ansa, authorities have collected evidence related to the Lazio COVID-19 swabs at the Formello training ground and laboratory in Avellino.

An investigation was launched after three Lazio players – Ciro Immobile, Lucas Leiva and Thomas Strakosha – repeatedly tested negative in their internal tests, but positive for UEFA.
