Juric: 'Gasperini taught me everything'

Ivan Juric admits Atalanta boss Gian Piero Gasperini ‘taught me everything,’ but Verona can’t follow their example without investing in players and creating 'a project.'

It kicks off on Saturday at 19.45 GMT, click here for a match preview.

If these two teams play similar football, it’s no coincidence, as Juric was Gasperini’s player at Genoa and then assistant manager.

Coppa: Cagliari squeeze past Verona

Riccardo Sottil scored deep into stoppages to give Cagliari the 2-1 victory over Hellas Verona, so they’ll face Atalanta next in the Coppa Italia.

Giovanni Simeone pulled out just hours before kick-off when testing positive for COVID-19.

His replacement, Alberto Cerri, opened the scoring when Sottil burst down the right and somehow kept the ball in to provide a perfect assist.

Verona were furious on 62 minutes when Eddie Salcedo had a goal controversially disallowed for a push on Cerri.

Thigh strain for Kalinic

Hellas Verona confirm Nikola Kalinic has sustained a femoral bicep tear in his left thigh, so will be out for one to three weeks.

A statement from the club outlined the diagnosis of a Grade I lesion in the femoral bicep muscle of his left thigh.

The recovery time cannot be calculated at this moment, as it depends on how the process goes.

This type of injury usually requires anywhere between one and three weeks on the sidelines.

It is only a Grade I tear, so that gives Verona some hope it’ll be closer to one than three weeks.

Highlights: Verona 0-2 Sassuolo

Hellas Verona were immensely unlucky to hit the woodwork four times, but Sassuolo took their chances well with Jeremie Boga and Domenico Berardi.

This result means the Neroverdi are still unbeaten and temporarily go top of the Serie A table, awaiting tonight’s Napoli-Milan clash.

The hosts really did not get the rub of the green, rattling the frame of the goal on four separate occasions.

“It was a huge performance, probably our best of the season, as we dominated and allowed Sassuolo very little,” said Juric in his press conference.
