'De Ligt chose Juve for the money'

Barcelona claim Matthijs de Ligt’s only motive for joining Juventus was money. “Italian taxation allows him to earn a higher net salary.”

Barca were long listed as favourites to sign De Ligt, but their failure to agree terms with the ex-Ajax defender let in Juve, who have pledged to pay him €8m plus €4m in bonuses over the next five years.

Conte: Barca didn't want Inter

Antonio Conte claims Barcelona ”won’t be happy to face Inter” in the Champions League group stage this season.

Inter and Barca have again been drawn together, following on from last season, when the Nerazzurri lost 2-0 at Camp Nou but held the Spanish champions to a 1-1 draw on home soil.

“We want to make our fans proud, playing a type of football that excites them and with which they can identify themselves,” Conte told UEFA’s official website.

Messi: Juve are stronger, Ronaldo...

Lionel Messi believes Juventus are stronger this season as they ‘signed very well’ over the summer and now feels ‘closer’ to Cristiano Ronaldo.

Messi gave a rare interview to Sport on Thursday, where he was asked about Barcelona’s rivals in the Champions League.

“I think everyone strengthened and signed the players they needed,” he told the Catalan publication.

El Toro bagged a hat-trick against Mexico, meaning he now has a remarkable 12 goals in 14 senior caps.

Braida: From Barca to Monaco?

Former Milan director Ariedo Braida has reportedly been offered the role of sporting director by Monaco.

Braida has been at Barcelona since 2015, occupying the position of international sporting advisor.

However, Gazzetta dello Sport claims his time at Camp Nou is over and that he is ready for his next challenge at the age of 73.

La Gazzetta adds that could happen at Monaco, who have already made him a proposal.

Rossi: I was Barca-bound...

Giuseppe Rossi claims he was Barcelona-bound in 2011, Inter are Juventus’ biggest challengers and Rocco Commisso is ‘serious’ about Fiorentina.

Rossi scored 32 goals for Villarreal in 2010-11 and was heavily linked with Barca the following summer, but Inter new boy Alexis Sanchez - then of Udinese - ended up moving to Camp Nou instead.

Juve squad cost €719m

Juventus spent €719m on transfer fees to assemble the squad, but Manchester City are the first club to surpass €1bn.

According to the CIES Football Observatory, the Bianconeri are the fifth biggest spenders in the top five European leagues.

Over the course of purchasing all their players, they paid out €719m in transfer fees.

This puts them above Barcelona, who spent €697m, but behind Manchester United on €751m, Real Madrid €902m and Paris Saint-Germain’s €913m.
