Favre: 'Inter-Borussia not decisive'

Borussia Dortmund coach Lucien Favre insists tomorrow’s showdown with Inter won’t be decisive for Champions League qualification. “Every team has strengths and weaknesses.”

It kicks off on Wednesday at 20.00 UK time (19.00 GMT) at San Siro.

Goalkeeper Roman Burki remains an injury doubt and will likely only be given the all-clear at the last minute, while Marco Reus, Marcel Schmelzer and Paco Alcacer haven’t made the trip.

Ronaldo to vie for Ballon d'Or

Cristiano Ronaldo is set to renew his rivalry with long-time rival Lionel Messi when the 30-man shortlist for the 2019 Ballon d’Or is announced later.

Ronaldo has won a total of five Ballon d’Ors, including two of the last three since France Football ended its partnership with FIFA.

However, the Juventus forward missed out on the 2018 gong after it was won by his former Real Madrid teammate Luka Modric.

Messi: Impressed by Inter

Lionel Messi reveals “I prefer to let others talk about me” compared to Cristiano Ronaldo and that Inter impressed him in the Champions League.

Messi has spent his entire career at Barcelona, whereas Ronaldo has won League titles in England, Spain and now Italy after starting his career in Portugal with Sporting CP.

“Each of us looks for experiences that we consider the best for ourselves,” the No 10 told Gazzetta dello Sport.

'Barca wanted Sensi, but Inter...'

Sassuolo chief Giovanni Carnevali has revealed that Barcelona also wanted Stefano Sensi, “but Inter were quicker.”

Sensi’s profile as a diminutive, ball-playing midfielder seemed to fit Barca’s ethos, but Carnevali explained how Inter made sure they wrapped up a deal for the midfielder before their Champions League rivals could begin to materialise their interest.

“When I was in Barcelona for the Marlon negotiations, one of the Barcelona executives asked me about Sensi,” he told Corriere dello Sport.

Verratti: 'I considered Barcelona'

PSG midfielder Marco Verratti admits he “considered” an offer from Barcelona in 2016 and hit out at his hard-partying media image.

The Italy international was heavily linked with a move to Barcelona in the summer of 2016, but it never materialised.

“It’s true that something different was proposed and I think it was only normal for me to consider it for a little while,” Verratti told RMC Sport and L’Equipe.

Real Madrid want Fabian in January

Real Madrid have surpassed Barcelona in the fight for Napoli midfielder Fabian Ruiz and reportedly want him in January.

The 23-year-old is going from strength to strength since he made the €30m transfer from Real Betis in the summer of 2018.

He has now become a regular in the Spain XI and is repeatedly linked with a return to La Liga.

Barcelona had been the most intrigued, but Monday’s Marca front page claims Real Madrid are determined to snap him up as early as January.

Barcelona eye Lautaro release clause

Barcelona’s interest in Lautaro Martinez means the €111m release clause is no longer a safety net for Inter, claim reports.

The 22-year-old Argentine is increasingly mentioned as a candidate for the Blaugrana, recommended by Lionel Messi.

He scored within two minutes at Camp Nou in their recent Champions League encounter, while he now has nine goals in 14 senior caps for his country.

According to Tuttosport, considering the general cost of talented forwards in Europe now, his €111m release clause might be seen as a bargain.

Inter and Juve looking at Rakitic

Ivan Rakitic is expected to leave Barcelona in January, with Juventus and Inter the clubs most interested, claim two Spanish papers.

Both Mundo Deportivo and Sport claim the 31-year-old Croatia international is eager to move on after being pushed down the pecking order by Frenkie de Jong.

He has made only one start this season and five substitute appearances.

Rakitic is under contract until June 2021, so selling him next summer could force Barcelona to accept a bargain price.

Skriniar: Inter working to win

Milan Skriniar claims Inter “have been working since the first day of preseason to win” as Antonio Conte has already “changed our mentality”.

Inter lost 2-1 to Juventus in the Derby d’Italia last weekend to drop to second in Serie A, but that was their only League defeat after seven games, having won the first six.

“We’ve been working since the first day of preseason to win,” Skriniar told Sport Mediaset after Slovakia’s 1-1 draw with Wales on Thursday.
