Fiorentina’s Federico Bernardeschi is expected to join Juventus – despite saying 18 months ago it would be “difficult”.

The forward joined the Viola youth setup in 2003, and made his debut for the club in September 2013.

He has since scored 23 goals in 82 appearances for the Tuscan side, but it appears he’ll join the Bianconeri for a fee of €40m.

Given the rivalry between the two clubs, Fiorentina fans are far from happy about the move and have recalled an interview Bernardeschi gave in 2015.

The Italian international told Corriere dello Sport “after 11 years in a Fiorentina shirt it would be difficult for me”.

It’s a familiar change of stance, however, as goalkeeper Neto declared in October 2014 “I wouldn’t go [to Juventus] because that would be to betray the Viola fans”.

The Brazilian signed for Juve that summer.
