Newcastle United have joined Atalanta, Fiorentina, Roma and Liverpool in their hunt for Genoa wing-back Diego Laxalt.

The Uruguay international was the subject of a €13m offer from the Viola, confirmed agent Vincenzo D’Ippolito yesterday, but “right now we’re closer to a deal with Atalanta. Genoa are asking for €15m.”

According to Sky Sport Italia, Rafa Benitez’s Newcastle want to celebrate promotion to the Premier League by splashing out on Laxalt.

Roma and Liverpool remain interested, but not to the same degree.

Juventus are hoping Atalanta win the race, because that would effectively free Leonardo Spinazzola to join them a year early, interrupting his two-season loan in Bergamo.
