Gian Piero Gasperini wants Atalanta to learn the harsh lesson of their defeat to Sampdoria. “We threw this game away.”

They had dominated the first half at Marassi, taking the lead through Bryan Cristante’s header, but were overturned 3-1.

“We compromised everything at the start of the second half,” said the Coach in his Press conference.

“It was a negative result because we had so many chances that we didn’t make the most of. It’s a limitation we must overcome, otherwise it becomes difficult to win matches.

“This can be an important lesson so we learn to face the next games in the right way. Sampdoria are having a different campaign to their recent outings and we should’ve been more wary of their reaction. In Serie A, you cannot play at 90 per cent and get away with it.

“We must rediscover the hunger to be protagonists and at the moment I see that mainly coming to the fore when we play in the Europa League.

“I am genuinely worried about how wasteful we are in attack at the moment. We create so much and don’t finish these chances. It’s a fine line between dominating a game and seeing it turned around.

“Samp deserve credit, as they picked up the tempo and we conceded several goals in a few minutes. We are satisfied with the overall performance, but angry about the way we threw away the result.”
