Like most U.S sports, Major League Soccer holds play-offs after the regular season, with two sides facing off in the MLS Cup final to be crowned champions.

Last season the Canadian franchise went to the final at their home stadium, BMO Field, but they were defeated by the Seattle Sounders.

In the first round this season, Giovinco’s winner in New Jersey allowed Toronto to beat the New York Red Bulls on away goals.

After a 0-0 draw in the first leg, the Italian’s hold-up play last night allowed Jozy Altidore to pick up the ball, and after a one-two with Victor Vazquez the American scored the winning goal.

Toronto will once again host the final, and are likely to face the Sounders again as they hold a 2-0 lead over Houston Dynamo going into tonight’s match.
