Alejandro Gomez is touch-and-go for Atalanta this evening as they take on Ukrainian champions Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League.

Atalanta are preparing to make their home debut in the Champions League, albeit at San Siro, after a 4-0 defeat at Dinamo Zagreb in their opening game.

Gomez scored a brace for Atalanta against Sassuolo at the weekend but came off in the second half with a minor muscle strain.

He is therefore a late doubt, although Sky Sport Italia still expects him to start alongside Duvan Zapata a two-pronged attack.

Elsewhere, former Shakhtar midfielder Ruslan Malinovskyi should win the run-off with Josip Ilicic as the Dea’s No 10.

The visitors, meanwhile, have started the season with nine straight wins in the League, although – like Gian Piero Gasperini’s side – were crushed 3-0 by Manchester City a fortnight ago.

Taison, who was heavily linked with Milan and Roma over the summer, will start out on the left wing.

Atalanta (probable): Gollini; Toloi, Kjaer, Palomino; Castagne, Freuler, De Roon, Gosens; Malinovskyi; Gomez, Zapata

Shakhtar Donetsk (probable): Pyatov; Butko, Matviyenko, Kyvtsov, Ismaily; Stepanenko, Alan Patrick; Konoplyanka, Marlos, Taison; Junior Moraes

Referee: Stieler (GER)
