Andrea Barzagli admits Italy “lack balance and need to improve” after a dismal 3-0 demolition at the hands of Russia.

Their pre-Euro 2012 preparations suffered a big hit when falling to this friendly defeat in Zurich on Friday evening.

“We certainly could’ve done better individually,” said the Juventus defender.

“We have to improve a great deal, as we lack balance, but because we haven’t played together in such a long time that was bound to happen.

“The 3-0 result was too heavy. It’s not good to concede three goals, but at the end of the day we have to get back on our feet.

“A three-man defence? It could be a solution, as we are open to everything, but it depends on the Coach.”

Naturally Barzagli was also asked about the betting scandal that ruled Domenico Criscito out of the tournament.

“We cannot let ourselves get affected by what is happening. We’re at the centre of attention, but must focus only on the field.”
