“Maybe many people didn’t expect us to get this far, but we always believed in ourselves and we’re happy to be here.

Goalkeeper Salvatore Sirigu says Italy have already “silenced” the pre-tournament critics by reaching the Final.

“It is a dream to be here for this game,” he told goal.com ahead of the Euro 2012 Final between Italy and Spain.

“Maybe many people didn’t expect us to get this far, but we always believed in ourselves and we’re happy to be here.

“We are playing against the strongest side in the world over the last few years, who have no weak points and great players in every area of the team.

“In all honesty, I don’t know what is the best way to beat them, as we must simply go out there and give our best,” continued the PSG shot-stopper.

“Anything could happen. What I do know is that our Nazionale is very strong, both in its mentality and its technique.

“We deserve to be here and silenced our detractors. Our locker room has always been very relaxed. We are motivated, but have not lost our concentration.”

Sirigu is third choice goalkeeper for Italy behind Gigi Buffon and Morgan De Sanctis.
