Struggling Sampdoria will be without summer signing Maxi Lopez for at least the next 40 days because of knee injury.
The Argentine striker picked up a meniscus problem on Sunday in the game against Atalanta which will require surgery.
“I felt strong pain, but I didn’t really understand straight away what I had done,” noted the former Catania and Milan man.
“It was only at the end of the game that I realised what has now unfortunately been confirmed by the tests.
“I won’t give up though and there is no point crying over spilt milk. After the operation all I will think about is getting back to work.”
The 28-year-old has three goals in nine League games for Doria so far this term.
