Vladimir Petkovic admits Lazio did not play their best football, but defends the decision to award Sergio Floccari’s goal.
The Biancocelesti beat Atalanta 2-0 and broke the deadlock when Floccari bundled over the line after the ball came off the crossbar to hit him on the arm.
“In the first half we played badly, as more or less everything was lacking. After the break we raised the tempo and quality, so deservedly won the game.
“We always try to improve and work day after day, that way earning that sense of security that we still do not have.
“Floccari? We would not have complained if the referee had awarded a free kick for the handball, but the touch was an involuntary ricochet and that was the decision he made.”
Lazio have cut the gap from Serie A leaders Juventus to just three points.
“If we are to aspire to something more this season, then we must learn to be more consistent throughout the game.”
