De Silvestri wants Azzurri future

Sampdoria’s Lorenzo De Silvestri has admitted that becoming a regular in the Giro Azzurro is still in his thoughts.

The now 24-year-old was considered as a potential international of the future while growing up in the Lazio youth ranks.

However, the right-back’s career has stalled somewhat after a move to Fiorentina and then Sampdoria.

“I do think about the national team and I’ve never put that to one side,” the defender told Sky Sport Italia.

“However, it is clear that I would firstly have to do well for Sampdoria and then I would be able to get back into Azzurro.”

Cesare Prandelli gave the player his one and only cap in the 5-0 win over the Faroe Islands back in September 2010.

De Silvestri has only played in 16 League games this term.
