Corini targets Cagliari party

Chievo host Cagliari this afternoon and Coach Eugenio Corini is confident “we can celebrate our safety.”

The Flying Donkeys thought they would’ve mathematically secured their Serie A status last week, but suffered a shock 1-0 home defeat to Genoa.

“In the first hour we had put Genoa under pressure and they really struggled to make an impact, so we had the sensation we’d win eventually,” said the Coach.

“We were dangerous on numerous occasions, but in the final half-hour Genoa’s attitude changed. Maybe it was because news was filtering through that Palermo had taken the lead.”

The relegation battle is still extremely tight, but Chievo can catch mid-table Cagliari with a victory today. It kicks off at 17.00 UK time, click here for a match preview.

“I really like Cagliari for their players and the type of football they use. I expect them to be psychologically free of pressure and eager to play their game.

“It will take a determined, focused and gritty Chievo to bring home the points so we can celebrate our safety.

“We must not lack concentration and the awareness we haven’t yet achieved our objective. We didn’t manage it against Genoa, so now we’ve got to get it with Cagliari.”

Chievo squad for Cagliari: Puggioni, Ujkani, Squizzi, Andreolli, Sardo, Sampirisi, Jokic, Papp, Farkas, Dramé, Dainelli, Cesar, Frey, Rigoni, Guana, Hetemaj, Seymour, Cofie, Luciano, Samassa, Stoian, Théréau, Paloschi
