“As soon as the transfer market opens, we will step forward for Robinho,” declared Santos after selling Neymar to Barcelona.
The Brazilian club had already been in advanced negotiations with the Milan striker in January, but nothing came of it.
Having sold star player Neymar to Barcelona this week, Santos are eager to appease the fans with another big name.
“As soon as the transfer market opens, we will step forward for Robinho,” said Vice-President Odilio Rodrigues.
“Of course Neymar is irreplaceable for everything he represents, but with the departure of our star, the efforts to create a winning side become even more pressing.
“Therefore, we are interested in Robinho.”
A move is more than plausible, as the 29-year-old has repeatedly said he misses Brazil and wants a return to his former club.
Milan are also prepared to release Robinho, as his contract expires in 2014, so this would be the last chance to bring in around €8m for him.
