“It was a very positive month for us, we showed our hunger and character. I compliment Italy for a great tournament and they deserved third place,” he told Rai Sport.

Naturally, he was asked about all the speculation over his future with a €63m buy-out clause in his contract.

“I salute the Napoli fans and the whole city, we’ll see each other soon. I will stay with my family for a little bit after this competition and then return to Italy.

“I do not talk about my future, as at this moment anything I say can be misinterpreted, so I prefer to just send a kiss to everyone in Naples and say Forza Napoli.”
