Hugo Campagnaro isn’t surprised that Inter teammate Mauro Icardi has been called up to the Argentina set-up.
“I’m glad he’s been selected,” the Argentine stopper commented. “He deserves it for what he did last season and how he’s started this one.
“He’s already scored two goals and then every time he’s come on he’s looked hungry, which is why boss Alejandro Sabella decided to reward him.
“I’m happy for him, he’s a good player.”
Icardi, just 20, moved to San Siro in the summer after catching the eye with Sampdoria during the last campaign.
Italy boss Cesare Prandelli had indicated a desire to select him for the Azzurri, as Icardi has the appropriate paperwork, but the player opted for the country of his birth instead.
The forward has netted two goals in four Serie A games so far for the Beneamata.
