Napoli are set to be without Giandomenico Mesto for months after the club confirmed a right knee problem.
The right-back limped out of the win over Catania on Saturday and tests have confirmed ligament damage.
The former Genoa man, 31, will have surgery at the Villa Stuart facility in Rome later this afternoon.
The Azzurri have made no comment on when he may return, but the wide-man could be out for the rest of the season.
“Mesto was having a great campaign, but his knee turned and we require tests,” boss Rafael Benitez said after the Week 11 game.
“He is a strong man, so when he requested a substitution straight away, it was a bad sign.”
Mesto had made 11 appearances for the Stadio San Paolo outfit this term.
