Eugenio Corini is a leading contender to take the Sampdoria job should the latter axe Delio Rossi.
Rossi’s future at Marassi is in doubt after a frustrating start to the season which sees them in the relegation zone after 11 games.
Doria are reportedly assessing a change at the helm following the shock 4-3 home loss to fellow strugglers Sassuolo.
Rossi was only hired in December after the club showed Ciro Ferrara the door.
Corini is currently out of work after he left Chievo Verona during the summer despite keeping the Flying Donkeys in Serie A.
Corini, 43, spent the 1992-93 season as a player with Sampdoria.
