Cagliari official Nicola Salerno has explained why the club opted to sign free agent Antonio Adan this week.
The Spanish goalkeeper was netted with immediate effect after he rescinded his contract at Real Madrid in September.
“We had this opportunity and, with Michael Agazzi’s injury, we opted to take it,” sporting director Salerno told the Corriere dello Sport.
“Adan was a free agent and can thus play straight away – especially as Agazzi has expressed a desire to move to another club.”
Agazzi, who won international recognition last season, is only contracted to the Rossoblu until June 2014.
