Inter legend Beppe Bergomi feels his former club could benefit by signing a new striker in January.

The Nerazzurri are the Division’s top scorers thanks to 30 goals in 13 games so far, but the ex-stopper thinks they are short of options in attack.

“All three defenders have valid alternatives,” Bergomi, a 1982 World Cup winner, told the Gazzetta dello Sport when asked about the present squad.

“Esteban Cambiasso is doing well in midfield and it would be tough to replace him.

“I don’t think an alternative for Saphir Taider is a priority and we shouldn’t forget Mateo Kovacic. They are not lacking midfield solutions.

“I think they would be missing a striker if Diego Milito is not in top shape. I really believe in youngsters Ishak Belfodil and Mauro Icardi, but the season is long.

“Inter have to stay in touch with the leaders and a striker, depending on the fitness of Milito, could be of use.

“If there was a chance to sign someone then I would.”

Inter are fourth in the standings, two points behind the Champions League zone.

Milito has played just three games this season because of injury.
