Pippo Inzaghi released a statement thanking Sassuolo for the job offer, but “it was only right” he should stay at Milan.

The club pushed hard to hire Inzaghi as a replacement for Coach Eusebio Di Francesco, but today gave up and gave the position to Alberto Malesani instead.

Inzaghi is currently the Coach of Milan’s Primavera youth team and had also been tipped for the main Rossoneri bench before Clarence Seedorf arrived.

“Regarding the news over the last few days, I wish to thank President Squinzi and Sassuolo for the opportunity to be a part of their project,” wrote Inzaghi.

“I am flattered and honoured that Sassuolo, an ambitious club with clear, innovative and solid ideas, thought of me as their Coach.

“However, it seemed only right to support and respect Milan’s decision to keep me in charge of Rossoneri Primavera side.

“Now I will continue, with hunger and enthusiasm, in my journey along with the lads.”
