The Genoa veteran missed out on a place in Italy’s 30-man provisional World Cup squad, despite a creditable Serie A 15 goal tally this season.
Several newspapers have suggested Napoli are in talks with Genoa to bring in Gila as an understudy to first choice Higuain.
“Talking about Gilardino as anyone’s understudy or reserve seems rather disrespectful,” agent Luca Puccinelli told Tuttomercatoweb.
“Napoli is an important club with big ambitions, but the truth is they’ve never spoken to me.”
Gilardino turns 32 in July and in recent years played for Genoa, Bologna and Fiorentina” data-scaytid=”14″>Fiorentina.
