Group D opponents for Uruguay, Italy and England this summer, the CONCACAF nation suffered the blow during a behind-closed-doors training session on Thursday.
Forward Saborio, who was the most capped member of Coach Jorge Luis Pinto’s provisional 26-man squad, fractured a metatarsal bone in his right foot.
With this injury requiring three to four months to recover from, the 32-year-old’s World Cup hopes are over.
Coach Pinto confirmed the news to reporters at a later news conference.
Saborio has scored 32 goals in 93 appearances for Costa Rica and was a member of the squad that went to the 2006 World Cup.
