Italy’s final 23-man squad for this summer’s World Cup will be announced later today.

After last night’s 0-0 friendly draw with Republic of Ireland, the Azzurri squad are set to fly back to Florence and their Coevrciano training base by 13.00 CET.

And reports in the Italian Press claim that Coach Cesare Prandelli will reveal his final travelling party sometime in the afternoon.

The squad has to be cut from 30 to 23 names, but one player who definitely won’t make Brazil is Riccardo Montolivo – the Milan midfielder broke his tibia in the match at Craven Cottage on Saturday.

According to this morning’s Gazzetta dello Sport, it means that Marco Verratti will almost certainly get the call.

Meanwhile, the likes of Matteo Darmian, Marco Parolo Antonio Cassano, Mattia Destro, Giuseppe Rossi and Lorenzo Insigne are thought to be the ones sweating over their place in the 23.
