Pjanic: 'Bosnia smiling again'

Roma midfielder Miralem Pjanic can’t wait for Bosnia’s World Cup debut against Argentina. “We made our nation smile again.”

The former Yugoslav republic of Bosnia-Herzegovina earned an historic qualification for this tournament in Brazil and at 23.00 UK time (22.00 GMT) will play their first ever World Cup game.

“Bosnia had difficult moments and we, with this qualification for the World Cup, have made our nation smile again,” Pjanic told Sky Sport Italia.

“We have never played in any major tournament, be it European Championship or World Cup. We’ll be so happy to make that debut tonight.”

Pjanic was born in Tuzla, but his family moved when his father – a professional football player – joined a club in Luxembourg.

He played international football for Luxembourg at Under-17 and Under-19 level.

“Some players, like Edin Dzeko, grew up during the war, while I left very young and spent my childhood abroad.

“In a certain sense I was fortunate, as when there is a war on you never know what can happen. I hope that there won’t be any more wars in future.”
