Honduras Coach Luis Suarez accepted “France were superior” on the night, but was confused by the goal-line technology.

His side was beaten 3-0 in Porto Alegre with a Karim Benzema brace and Wilson Palacios sent off.

“For 90 minutes, France played better than us. They were superior, I have no excuses,” declared Suarez.

“There are some things I need to do in order to improve the way the team functions. It’s also hard to keep up when you’re a man down.

“In a competition like this, you can lose and still learn a great deal for the future.”

This was an historic game, as for the first time goal-line technology was used to award a goal.

It caused some consternation in the stadium, as first the screens declared ‘No Goal’ because Benzema’s shot had ricocheted off the post, but then analysed the ‘keeper bundling it over the line and announced ‘Goal.’

“The machine first told us there was no goal, then afterwards it granted it. I didn’t know what to think…”
