Vincenzo Montella was encouraged by Giuseppe Rossi’s performance and says he is developing an understanding with Mario Gomez.
La Viola were defeated 2-1 by Palmeiras overnight in Brazil, but saw Rossi get on the scoresheet and provide a notable performance.
“It was a positive test for Rossi, beyond the goal he has moved well, he is improving,” Montella has reflected post-match.
“He scored a great goal and moved very well, but nothing happened that I did not expect.
“The understanding between Mario Gomez and Rossi is also growing in training, then we will see if there is room to play both in the match in Peru [on Saturday against Universitario].
“The result? I loved the desire to not lose the game even though it was only a pre-season friendly. I think that the team has done better today in their level of play, compared to the weekend game against Estudiantes. We were unable to equalise, but we did well.
“We had many players out of position, and we suffered on the counter-attack, but we have to work on these gaps and improve, when we expose ourselves in trying to play the game and some problems are created at the back.
“This is a delicate period, I will not speak of individuals, but rather underline the commitment of the group.”
