Problems for Mattia Destro and Jackson Martinez are pushing Milan towards Chelsea’s Fernando Torres or Samuel Eto’o.

Problems for Mattia Destro and Jackson Martinez are pushing Milan towards Chelsea’s Fernando Torres or Samuel Eto’o.

Mario Balotelli is undergoing a medical at Liverpool to complete his €20m (£16m) transfer this evening and the club is scrambling for a replacement.

Milan Channel confirmed an approach towards Roma for Destro, who they want to take on loan for €5m with an option to buy for a further €16m.

Jackson Martinez is another prime target, but today Porto declared they have no intention of selling the Colombian.

According to Sky Sport Italia, Milan have now approached Chelsea to ask after Spaniard Torres.

He’d fit the bill for the Rossoneri, who often invested in veteran talents looking to revitalise their careers at San Siro.

Now 30, Torres joined Chelsea from Liverpool in January 2011 for an extraordinary £50m, but never completely delivered on that promise.

It’s likely Milan would request Torres on loan with an option to buy, or even accept a straight loan deal.

Another alternative is Eto’o, who is a free agent released by Chelsea at the end of last season.

It was reported today in the English media that Eto’o underwent a medical with Liverpool, but they might not need him if they are signing Balotelli.

It would be a return to Serie A for 33-year-old Eto’o after he won the Treble at Milan’s city rivals Inter.
