New Leeds United hero Giuseppe Bellusci reveals why he was never allowed to take free kicks at Catania.

The summer arrival immediately made his mark on the Championship, curling in a magnificent set piece from 30 metres to decide a 2-1 victory away to Bournemouth.

“I scored at my first attempt. Maybe I should try that more often,” smiled Bellusci to GianlucaDiMarzio.com.

“I often enjoyed taking free kicks in training, but at Catania I never could’ve actually done it in a match situation. We already had a great specialist like Francesco Lodi in the side.

“Did I learn from Lodi? No, we have different styles. His is very precise and is able to shoot even close to the goal, whereas I need a bigger distance to get it on target.”

Remarkably, that was only the second goal Bellusci has ever scored in his football career.

The other goal was in Serie B tie Triestina 1-2 Ascoli in February 2009.

“It was very exciting. I had to go and celebrate under the 2,000 Leeds fans who supported the team despite travelling 600km.

“I hope to repeat the trick, although they award very few free kicks in England. I think I’ll continue taking them and we’ll see what happens.”
